Starting the final phase of body work
Started the final phase of getting ready for paint this week. Removed all of the emblems and mirrors and welded up the holes. Also getting the last of the rust taken care of.
Hope to have paint on it by the end of next week.

Re: Starting the final phase of body work
I got this from CG a couple of months ago. Very little rust for being a North West truck. Going to pull the front sheet metal off this weekend and install the powter coated radiator support and inner fender wells that CG gave me.
Remove the bed so the back of the cab and the front of the bed can be painted. The cab has been put parallel to the frame and all of the sheet metal has been alined and fitted to the cab so all of the seams now are even. Took the rear bumper down and had it sand blasted and powter coated. When this is done it will be a good solid daily driver.

Re: Starting the final phase of body work
Keeping it black. I looks good in that color.
Pictures from this Saturday. Pulled the front fenders and hood off and also the doors. Removed the heater box ( real easy with out the fenders in the way. Under coated the cowl under the fenders. Sanded the fenders and doors down after filling all of the holes that we welded. Removed everything from the dash so we can get the interior painted. It was a busy day.

Well got some more done this week. Removed the bed, sanded the cab, installed a new heater box, installed new power steering hoses, new alternator, thermostat and housing. Will start painting the bed Sunday.

Re: Starting the final phase of body work
Well another day of progress on the 71. All done sanding now the primer. The bed got painted but I couldn't get into the paint booth since the paint was still wet and we didn't want to take a chance on getting anything in the paint.

Re: Starting the final phase of body work
The rest of the pictures of new paint. And oh yeah I got the seat all assembled too. Terry did a great job of putting it together.
I should mention the painter and his wife who are doing the majority of the work Bill & Dothy Carle. Great folks to work with.

Re: Starting the final phase of body work
Great looking truck!
I love the stock look and want to do the same with mine. My spid says it had 16.5 x 8 wheels on it originally. Now it has some skinny 16" ones. What size wheels do you have which allowed the stock hubcaps to fit? 16 or 16.5? Can the hubcaps fit on either? Thanks for any guidance! |

Looked like a 3/4 ton! Sorry.
I have found a pair of hubcaps so I guess I will buy them and see if they fit my 16s. |

Re: Starting the final phase of body work
to answer the question on the wheels, they aren't aftermarket. They are CUCV Blazer wheels. They are a factory wheel that were pretty much only found on the CUCV Military blazers and are hard to come by. They are a 15 x 8 steel wheel that will accept the dog dish hubcaps and look like the factory correct 15 x 6" wheels for our era trucks. They will run someone about twice what the Rally 15 x 8 6 lug wheels bring.
