I have a craftsman 5 hp 25 gal compressor which stopped working right, so I went out and bought another one. This one is a Huffy 6.5 hp with a 30 gal tank.
my guestion is, if I link the two compressors in tandum, would it be benifical in any way. thanks Randy

The 5HP one doesn't run any more? If so and you intend to only use the tank as "additional" air storage capacity, you would actually be doing yourself a disfavor. Your new compressor would work harder, run longer, supply moister and hotter air causing premature motor failure as well as additional problems for your airtools.

as I somethmes I use my tools a lot and the compressor never seems to have a chance to shut down. So I was just thinking, maybe that might work
I know I could have gotten a larger one but its all I could afford. any thanks again

you can take the motor and pump off the old one and with a few fittings turn the tank into a portable air tank// good to fill up a couple of flat tires when dragging projects home

i have 2 compressors at work a champion witha 5hp motor and a 80 gallon take and a ir compressor and they are both linked together been that way for about a year and no problems yet they run longer only on first start up of the day but they do not cut on nearly as much as the single compressor did by it self

2 working compressors hooked together I agree and have done so myself occasionally if I needed that little extra CFM. Two tanks linked together exceeding the rated/intended capacity of one of the motors, I still think you would be looking for trouble down the road. But then that's just my gut impression and not based on anything scientific.

I ran a set up like you want to do for years before I bought my bigger one that I have now....all I can say is pull air from the none working comp tank as the air will cool in there collecting a ton of moisture ( so drain regularly).....you comp may run longer on start up but it it will also rest longer before starting for the next cycle......like you said we have all run them for hours with a DA sander......

the big question to everyone is when was the last time you changed the oil in your compressor
?

we one run compressor at a time at work one as a storage tank and change the oil in there every 6 months

Two compressors hooked together can work slick, takes some adjusting to get it right though. You don't want them starting at the same time. Adding another tank to the system can provide extra air on hand, but won't help where you would need more air continuously, like sandblasting. Still would need more CFM's for that.
