I think I'm in trouble TV cable replace gone bad

I know I should post a picture of this, but I was hoping someone who is familiar with the throttle cable on a TBI with a 700R4 could help. I was replacing mine today (87' V10 w/350)and when I disconnected the end from the transmission, it kind of popped out. No problem I thought, but when I looked at the small "hook" that the eye end of the cable hooks to, I can't see how the hook stays in the eye hole. Thus I think I broke it. I can see how the hook in the tranny hooks to the end of the cable, but how does the hook stay in the eye? Everytime I try to put it back in, it pops out. The factory repair manual doesn't state anything about a clip and the hook in the diagram looks like mine. Just a hook with a straight top that slides in. If it looked more like a fish hook I could see how it would stay, but it looks like a fish hook that the end broke off of. If I don't get an answer I will try and post a pic, but I had to leave the gargae before I lost it! FRUSTRATING!!

No assistance on this post needed. I found a online tranny site that explains the procedure, and the tranny link that connects to the cable is supposed to be designed like that. You just have to be careful to not let it slip off when pushing it back into the transmission. Seems strange, but I'm not an engineer!
