That is one slick parts hauler, what are your plans for it?

Awesome site by the way.

That's a bunch of cool vehicles you've got on your website. Did you build all those?

Nice truck and some awesome stuff on your website. As a matter of interest, what did you cut your windshield on your 51 Buick with? Sandblast, beltsander, rotozip (like Pete Hagan video on youtube), other method?

Re: 1951... shop truck

Yaril whats up man. I first saw your work on the build thread for the 50 GMC on the HAMB.

All I gotta say is, you better get some build pics of this one too!

I'm guessing 4-link, coilovers?

Re: 1951... shop truck

thank you guys!

plans for the truck arent much. ordered chrome bullet lug nuts and plan to eventually get the truck in 1 or 2 colors (fenders / running boards 2-tone style). trucks already equipped with a 350 crate motor, 350 trans, p/s, p/b new wiring harness ext. in the pic i already lowered the rear 3" and installed that front bumper on the Cutlass / Monte clip. also tied up a lot of mechanical loose ends. still got a few more to go but its running driving smooth. picked up some plywood for the bed and some stain today. its going to be a parts hauler so i dont want to bother making it too nice, just right.

IL boy, my shop is real close to Miami Int'l Airport. i work solo. friends lend a hand from time to time but its my gig.

robin58, i sandblasted the glass on my Buick. slow and steady, patience is key.

63 & 64 Bowties, all the vehicles on my site i have hand my hands on. some more than others. most of them are suspension jobs and some full builds.

slim, any progress on your projects? i got Ami's 53 Chevy truck back in the shop for a full re-wiring, head to toe to make right what other shops have neglected.

i
thanks!

Re: 1951... shop truck

small update... painted the centers in a red metal speckle paint and got all new acorn bullet lugs.

did some more mechanical bs too, replaced the center steering link cause it had too much free play on the tie rod fitting. its much tighter now. still need to buy and install 2 wheels studs and get an alignment for piece of mind.

Re: 1951... shop truck

got to do a couple more things to the truck today...

air filter needed to be modified to clear the linkage and dizzy, i didnt like the cheapy chrome cover, so i modified a 53 Caddy hub cap to fit...

also worked on my wood. i am going to use a simple 3/4 plywood for the bed cause it will be more functional and cheaper than the chrome striped bed. i stained it "ebony" on both sides and got 1 coat of semi-gloss clear on it. plan to apply 3 coats of clear to the top side of the wood for protection...

tomorrow morning ill get an alignment and resurface the front rotors and rear drums, at which point ill find out what size studs ill need to buy the 2 broken ones. hopefully apply 2 more coats of clear to the wood so that i can install that over the weekend.

Re: 1951... shop truck

You managed to find a sheet of plywood wider than 48" or are you just "cheating" the size under the side L strips? I know some lumber yards here used to carry 5' wide sheets (9 and 10 ft lengths)but it's become harder than heck to find.

Re: 1951... shop truck

im totally cheating. i got a 48" wide x 6'-5" i believe. so yeah, half inch on each side wont bother me much.

thanks 71' i needed a truck to haul parts and what not, so why not get something that ill enjoy even when im not hauling parts? the hitch is on there but looks very week. maybe to pull a riding lawn mower.

Re: 1951... shop truck

what a morning,

got my alignment taken car off. it needed some shims and was all out of whack. now its much much better. then i went to my brakes guy (i hate the mess break fluid makes). lucky i did go to him cause we found the rear was not working at all! clogged rear hose. then the rear wheel cylinders needed rebuilding from not being used. to top it all off, the rear had the 2 small shoes on the driver drum and the 2 larger shoes on the passenger drum??? WTF? is this some sort of hot rod trick i didnt know about? not to mention just about every spring was placed backwards or wrong. thankfully its all worked out and the truck stops on a ****ing dime now! its getting better and better. now off to my shop to continue clearing the wood and install my 2 missing lug nuts, that my brake guy was nice enough to find and install the 2 broken studs.

Re: 1951... shop truck

funny, just the other day i noticed my firewall on my truck. it has less "ribs" than the 53 im working on. i remember a post (cant find it anymore) someone posted pics showing the difference in firewall structure throughout the years. i think my cab is 50 and older now. i know doors are 50 or older cause no vent window and the turn down handles.

Re: 1951... shop truck

thank you guys. 72 hotrodder, my username was suppose to be tylerdurden but i suck at speling! hahaha.

today i plan to start the build of my bed side rails. i want those old wood rails on my truck, not just for looks but function as well. so i am going to purchase some wood for the uprights and some for the horizontal planks. ill later stain it ebony to match my bed floor. wish me luck.

this is the "look" im going for, only the 2 sides though:

Re: 1951... shop truck

well wrapped up the fabrication of the wood side rails for the bed in just about 2 hours.

cost me $35 in material:
(1) 2x2 x 8'
(4) 1x4 x 8'
nuts, bolts & washers galvanized

all that is left is to tear it apart, stain the wood in ebony to match the floor and reassemble...

plan to paint logos/text on the wood after i stain it, so here is a sample of that:
