My 72 Burb
Look what was delivered in my driveway this morning while I was at church! I bought it from board member sharpie72--thanks man for a sweet burb!
I had a guy haul it for me from uship from Wyoming to Kansas Thanks to all for the pm's and info you gave in helping me to decide this is the right burb for me/family. There is hardly, if any rust on this and it's just about ready for a paint job. The interior needs work. I'm going to start Monday working on her so be ready for a ton of questions. |

Re: My 72 Burb
Here's some better pictures of it when it was at the PO house.
I spent the day going through it and found the owner's manuel and sanding the inner fenders and painting them. I really think this may be ready for the paint booth as I have not found any rust on the outside at all. It is straight and doesn't have any dents or dings in it. If I take it to a painter, would he let me know if its ready for a paint job or will he paint it anyways? I'm not sure on the seats though. The po gave me four bence seats: 2 of them are 5 ft. long and 2 are 4ft long. One of the 4 ft. ones has the arm rests and ashtray and it is the only one. The other 4ft has the holes for the arm rests. So can someone tell me what do I have here? Are the 2 4fts. the ones I need for the 2nd and 3rd seats and I have an "extra" front seat? Or does the 5ft one go in the back? Thanks for all the help, Joe |

Re: My 72 Burb
Welcom to the burb club! You have a couple of options with seats.
1) 5' bench in front and then 5' bench for 2nd row (no 3rd row) 2) 5' bench in front, 4' bench 2nd row and 4' bench 3rd row You could also put a 4' bench for the 3rd row with option #1, but you would have to crawl over the middle bench to get to the back. By using the 4' bench in the 2nd row, you will have a walk through to the back bench seat. Keep us updated on the progress.

Re: My 72 Burb
Thanks, right now I'm trying to get her start but for some reason it's not wanting to fire up. I've started sanding and painting the inner fenders (they are off the burb). I've bought a gallon of simple green and will be cleaning the engine (as discussed in another post). I don't think the money will be there for me to get it painted this year. I'm thinking about putting all the trims and handles back on and making it my daily driver and saving for a paint job in the spring. Hopefully, this winter I can get the seats upholstered.
Thanks everyone, Joe |

Re: My 72 Burb
That is a sweet looking burb. It looks exactly like my father in laws 4x4 burb before he started working on it. Sorry if you stated it already but is it four wheel drive?

Yes, it's a 4 x 4. I'm already looking forward to driving her when we're having a Kansas blizzard!

Re: My 72 Burb
Wow, I just got off the phone with a guy who I'm hoping will do my seats. It's going to be over $500 per seat to make it all original! I think I might go with a cheaper material which will be around $250 per seat!.

Re: My 72 Burb
That's along the lines of what I have heard. About $450-600 per seat. When I do my seats it's going to cost more than what I bought the thing for.

Re: My 72 Burb
my dad put a blazer rear seat in his 72 burb and it had the wide second row bench. yes we had to climb over the seat to get to the back, but it made for more elbow room for second row passengers (where the old folks rode) and it just looks better having the full row bench rather than an offset shorty bench that quite frankly makes me think of a minivan....yuck....

Re: My 72 Burb
It's already been a long cold snowy winter and we're only about half way through it but I'm already thinking about working on my burb in the Spring. The first thing I'm going to do is get her painted. I have about 25% of the needed funds to get her done. I'm leaning more and more on having someone else do it rather than have me mess it all up. I'm thinking about going with the original colors but I'm still not sure. I love the blue/white but I'm looking for a color that would "wow" you when it's going down the highway or in a car show. Any suggestions on this?
Just thought I'd check in-hope everyone is doing well. Merry Christmas and God bless you and yours, Joe |
