Is my engine running too cool?

My 350 runs about 145 degrees. It wil get to 160 in traffic. I have a 4 core radiator and 180 dgree thermostat and a non clutch flex fan. What problems will this cause? Bad performance? Bad MPG?

Re: Is my engine running too cool?

Either your gauge is wrong or your thermostat is sticking open. With a 180 thermostat the coolant doesn't even go to the radiator at 145. It starts to open at 180 and is fully open at something like 190. Until 180 is reached, the coolant is just circulated around the engine.

Re: Is my engine running too cool?

get a good thermometer ,available at most grocery stores and take the actual temp of the coolant in the radiator and check your gauge for accuracy
