Changing the Power Steering Pump on my 68
The power steering pump on my 68' has a separate reservoir that mounts near the radiator. I wanted to convert to the newer pump. Do I need to also change my steering box? What else do I need to consider?

Sounds like your truck was originally equipped with a 396 engine.
Are you planning on running a small block or big block chevy engine? Which water pump style? Long or short? Your original steering box should be fine.

Re: Changing the Power Steering Pump on my 68
I'm staying with the 396 and I'm willing to go with a water pump length that works. I'm not sure what length I have now. My truck is down to the frame and my motor is in storage so I can't get to it right away to look.

Re: Changing the Power Steering Pump on my 68
The truck BB and SB were all short waterpumps up until 1972.
In 1973 they went to a long water pump and the alternator switched sides. (In '73 the Alternator was on the passenger side) So all '73 up stuff is different, I like the remote reservoir. Why do you want to change?

LOL, I don't know. Just seemed like the thing to do. I figured the newer style was better. If there is no real difference I'll just keep it.
