Info on RPO G80 rear positraction axle!

I'd like to have info and picture on RPO G80 rear positraction axle. I have found two trucks with this rpo in glove box but I like toi confirm if it's a real posi axle. How to visually identify this parts and what is the check to confirm that the part work good. Thank's, François

only way to check it is to do a burn out. you can jack up one side and try to turn it but best way is a burn out...
p.s.
might want to start out in some water, its easyer on parts.

Re: Info on RPO G80 rear positraction axle!

Ok thank's, now I have a non-posi (12 bolts cover) on my truck (1971 c/10 2wd) and is it possible to only change the carrier (parts circled on the picture) to transform my diff. to posi. Or better change only the posi parts (spring and plate) into the carrier and keep my carrier.

Change the whole rear. The ring and pinion set up from the factory is right on the money. You will be way ahead to go that way rather than trying to re-setup the differential. It's a real pain.

By the way, G80 code is a long running option through different generations of trucks. You can look at an option sheet regardless of the year and if you see G80 on the list, it's a factory posi truck, even modern trucks.

The truck is a 1972 and glove box spid indicate G80. It's impossible for me to take the whole rear because the outside are very rusted and for the interior it's a surprise too. The truck are in the wood since many year.

Change the whole axle or just the innards over to an Eaton?

I will need to do this on my 2wd Blazer and would rather know now - what I will be up against - and what price I will suffer to find a whole posi rear axle.
