My 68 4x4 got some new shoes today!!

I got this truck two months ago and I got to see it first hand in person only yesterday. I cant wait to get my hands dirty! I put new wheels and tires on and after installing the eagle 058 15x10 on the front I realized that the wheel studs are to short. I tried to source new longer 7/16" studs but could not find anything after going to 3 part stores. So i will be going to a 1/2" wheel stud and drilling out my new break drums to fit the 1/2" wheel studs. I did a complete brake job front and rear(minus the brake drums, they don’t have those on the shelf any more have to order them lol) with new wheel cylinder and brake line on the left rear. I also got a new edelbrock carb 600cfm which the guy at the part store forgot to mention that I need the fuel kit, steel line to rubber, so now i have to get that before I see what my new carb will do. Ordered my 3" body lift kit with complete body mounting hardware from lmc today. I have a cab with new rockers, corners, and cab mounts to go on and fenders that have had some body work done to them so when I am done it will be a very solid truck. The box is in very good shape, no dings in the bed!

tell me what you think so far

Isn't it crazy what a nice set of wheels and tires does to the look of an old vehicle ? I think it's the best financial investment on improving a truck's appearance, even better than a paint job.

I've always thought wheels/tires were a good investment. Beautiful purchase, and nice choice on the wheel/tire combo.

So what's next?

That is a very cool truck. I would drive the heck out of it just as it sits.

Does it have a 71/72 grill on it?

Well after the body lift goes in I will be focused on making it a very reliable and safe truck. I plan on upgrading to power steering which will be easy, the PO put in a newer 350 with the mounting holes in the block for all the power steering brackets, new shocks are on order, I am upgrading to a clutch fan and have a twin core radiator to go in. When the body comes off I am going to replace all the drive line fluids, the leaf springs need a little loving as well, new ones for the rear and adding a leaf and re-arching for the front. I also want to put a levelling block in the rear. Does anyone know what size that is?
That is just the start as all of us on here well know lol there are plans for new bumpers and a slider rear window among many many more goodies lol

Re: My 68 4x4 got some new shoes today!!

I agree, you shouldn't run a body lift, and just run a suspension lift of 2-4" and be done with it. 67-68 supsension lift kits are pretty uncommon though to find, so that may be the issue. If that's the case, just rearch the springs. Nothing wrong with body lifts, but trucks just don't look good with a lot of frame showing, especially with a more desirable truck as a swb 4x4. Very nice find, you will love having a swb 4x4. Trevor
