Using a Camaro Tach in our Gauge Clusters

Back some time ago (07/2007) Board Member "Gringoloco" did a write up on installing and using a Camaro Tach in our Gauge Cluster (see his build link below). My question is, has any other board member done this (pics please) and were any of the other gauges from the Camaro Cluster used. Looks like the Camaro Tach was from a 70-81.

Thanks

I remember the write up, had me wanting to do mine, But sorry never got around to it. So here is a bump maybe we can catch somebody that did do it.

Have not done anything yet, I'm gonna look into it more. When I get the Cluster finished, I'll post pics.

Re: Using a Camaro Tach in our Gauge Clusters

I will post pics soon, putting some finishing touches on it, I don't know if I should put a quartz clock in it or not. I am trying to make it look more original than any other one I have ever seen. I plan on selling it on the board here in the next week or so. Trevor

Re: Using a Camaro Tach in our Gauge Clusters

yes, I used a cluster out of a 70-81 camaro. The tachs are different through the years, some are better choices than others, but I can't tell you what years are better than others. You can use the clocks out of them as well, but I hear that the quartz clocks out of 81-87 pickups is better to use. Trevor

Re: Using a Camaro Tach in our Gauge Clusters

Trevor,

Thanks for the info. I'll be getting my Camaro Instumment Cluster here in a few weeks when I go to Jersey. This one Red Lines at 4500 and goes to 7000 RPM. It should look real cool in there. I would like to use most or all of the gauges. Looking forward to seeing pics of your gauges.

Thanks Again

Re: Using a Camaro Tach in our Gauge Clusters

I did this a couple months ago and it was fairly easy to do. It did take some fine tuning of the back metal part of the dash to clean everything up. It looks great now and very factory.

I did mine on a '68 Chevy truck, where you have the turn signal arrows. I used plastic cleaner, 2000 grit sandpaper and small bit of water to remove the turn signal arrows.

I don't have the turn signal arrows, but I just try to remember if I turned the turnsignal on/off.

I would highly recommend this. They sell the tachs on e-bay for $10-$40.

Adam

Re: Using a Camaro Tach in our Gauge Clusters

You can use the 130mph speedo or 150mph Z28.
Z28 also had a 8K tach!
Notice if you take off the stock gas gauge markings you can redo them inside the gauge and they match the size of the speedo. See pics.

I have the 70-81 Camaro Instrument Panel (I'll actually be picking it up next week) and want to use all of the gauges from it for my C-10 Bezel. According to PICKMUP the Z-28 Panel my fit a bit better. Like I said I get it next week and I'll be out of town for a few weeks. As soon as I get it done, I'll post pictures

Wow Adam! That tach looks really good in our gauge bezel. Was there allot of fab work to fit it? If so, please share any info as I am really interested in fitting one for my 69' Stepside. Thanks for the picture.

Re: Using a Camaro Tach in our Gauge Clusters

This is one mod that I have gone back and forward 100 times between just doing all my gauges with a new bezel to autometers or just keeping mine and adding the camaro tach...so I am suscribing as well..
