Camper shell?
So.. I been wanting a shell or canopy as some call them for my short fleet side and so far haven't found any.
I was at the RV dealer today and asked about a shell for my 72. She looks in her book and says "no they only go back to 73". I asked if they might be the same, says she dont know and moves on to whatever it was she was doing when I so rudely interupted her. So my question to you is. Are there any made for our trucks new? will a short fleet 73-87 fit? or am I just going to have to find a used one? Last edited by Olden Days; 09-12-2009 at 09:45 AM. |

Re: Camper shell?
Call Vern's Camper in Burbank, CA. They even knew a place that could make me a shell for my LONGHORN. I'm sure they would know what is available for your truck.

Re: Camper shell?
My 67 long bed had a cap on it when I got it, it fits perfectly on my 95 long bed Ford. I remember in the late 70's and early 80's people using the same caps on Ford's and Chevies. So I'd say theres a good chance they are the same. But I could be completely wrong.

Re: Camper shell?
did they go to a 6 foot bed in 73? I know they look real stubby to me, it could be an optical dillusion since they got a bit fatter in 73...

Re: Camper shell?
Try Caravan Campers in Reno, NV. They built this one for a longbed. I bet they could set you up with a brand new one no problem. These are metal tops, capable of supporting over #2500lbs on the roofs. Seriously strong stuff. He also said on the phone a while back that the 73 is a bit wider, so it's possible a 73 up would fit, just hang over a bit.
