Stainless bed strips - over or under?

Test fitting my new wood bed before the bed goes in for paint....where the strips run into the wheel wells, are the strips supposed to go between the wood and the wheel well? Looks like it should but to get the wheel well to sit flush, one will have to grind some of the strip away.....is this correct?

The strip would not look right over top so assume this is wrong.

UNDER...Factory ones were a little thinner and sat deeper into the wood grooves, so they sat nearly perfectly flush!

I just finished mine and I wasn't sure what to do either...I wanted to grind the tops down but I was worried about the integrity of the strip...from all the pics I searched it appeared that most didn't sit exactly flush in that spot, so I figured they just lived with it....so thats what I did......Maybe I should have just ground em down?...One quick tip: Double & triple check the squareness of the bed when your test fitting and marking holes to be drilled in the wood!

Thats what I figured. My new wheel wells also aren't perfect...the front side bolt holes don't line up with the bed strip holes...off about a 1/2". Been looking at this new problem and doesn't look like much I can do with it

Doing same thing here, going to have a little dimple in the wheel tubs, but should still be OK.
