My soon to be wife, doesn't look like she is going to be giving me back my new car anytime soon. bought it as a graduation present LAST MONTH. Her car's tranny just blew and it's not worth the 1800 to put a new tranny into a 91 626 with 230,000m. Anyway, after we get married next month we will have enough money for me to get a new motor for my "yet again" daily driver. Where is the best place to look for a 350-355 slighlty modified motor. I know i can go to GM and get a boreing one, but i would rather spend a little more money upfront and do the entire underhood swap at once. sorry it's so long, just need some advice.

Everett Chevrolet has a good web site that you can look at GM Performance Parts crate engines and the standard replacement engines.

the site looks great especialy the tannys. i was looking at the 377 stroker for a good budget high tork motor. i've heard tons about 383 but never a 377. anybody have any thoughts?

Check all those other places everyone mentioned. Then check out Scoggin-Dickey Chevrolet in Lubbock, TX. They are the LARGEST supplier for GM Performance parts and have their own machine shop. They sell every crate motor offered and even have some of their own combinations. Hot Rod magazine uses them whenever they need a crate motor. They're usually cheaper than everyone else, but will match prices if they aren't. Their web address is SDPC2000.COM or you can call them at 1-800-456-0211. Just looking at their catalog, they have a 330hp/350 for a little over $2,000.00. Comes with a warranty too.

Isn't the 377 a 400 block with a 350 crank? If so, it isn't going to be that great of a high-torque engine, but more of a high RPM engine.

Or is a 377 a standard bore 350 block with a 400 crank? If that is what it is, it will have almost identical power to a 383 stroker, but the bore will be .030 smaller.

it *can* be either

a stroked 350 unbored, or a destroked 400
