supercharger with stock hood?

I searched this for about an hour and could not find any pics of someone running a 142 or 144 blower with our stock hoods. Has anyone seen this done before? Thanks in advance.

I have seen it done, can't remember who did it. Should fit under stock hood.

Re: supercharger with stock hood?

Homeboy, how do you like that bad boy? I can't decide if I want to just try to build a 500 hp motor or go with a mostly stock vortec and slam a 144 on it. You just can't beat the cool factor of a blower though!!! I bet it is a real sleeper.

Re: supercharger with stock hood?

Hey Nick,

Unfortunately, I've yet to hear it run. I have been working on the truck forever, but i still have a bunch left to do, i.e. fuel tank, wiring, interior, finish cutting and buffing the paint. Never seems to end....

Re: supercharger with stock hood?

Hey Rob, how do you like it? I did read a little on them in Jegs, but there hp numbers sounded a little low compared to the roots style. You definitely have the clearance.

Yeah, clearance is not an issue. The motor dyno'd 445 on just the carb and 675 with the blower, . I've been very impressed with it so far....

Holy S#$& Rob, 675 with the blower? How much did it set you back if you don't mind me asking? That sounds like a very viable option to me. I'll have to read a little more on them.

It was in the truck when I bought it.

The motor was built by T&L out of North Carolina. The guy I bought it from said there was over $10K in the motor and from everything I've seen, I believe him.

Canyon is a little south of Amarillo in the Texas Panhandle. I sure wish mine had a blower.

Re: supercharger with stock hood?

I like Hart Rod's setup......centrifugal blowers will typically make more HP than a roots blower. Roots style blowers tend to shine down low and create a lot of low end torque but are also the least efficient when it comes to superchargers and turbo's. Never-the-less, they are fun and do put a big grin on your face.

Here's mine.....I probably have about 1" of so of clearance from the top of my air cleaner to the underside of the hood (Weiand 142). I would've rather had a 177, but that would've required a cowl hood.

Re: supercharger with stock hood?

Thanks SactoJim, that is good to know. I know what they do, but I didn't know which ones put out more than others. What did it do to your gas mileage? Thanks for the info, I'm liking the sounds of the Vortech the more ya'll chime in.

Re: supercharger with stock hood?

Mine's a pig!.....going down the freeway in overdrive (700r4), it's not that bad, but around town.....like I said..a pig. Of course I didn't build it to be economical and if I had to drive it everyday, I would've done something different. Keep in mind it is a 383 with decent flowing heads and a healthy cam.

I agree with Jim, if you want economy, you probably want to build something else. I view the fuel gauge as a "fun meter", .

Re: supercharger with stock hood?

I'm a fan of the Procharger D1SC. Our trucks give you plenty of room for plumbing and with a front mount intercooler you can get to 600 hp pretty easily. Of course at that level you're going to want a forged bottom end. If you can find the right manifolds, a couple of small turbos might be a fun setup...

I'm not looking for economy Rob, I want one of those fun meters like you have!!! I'll ride my motorcycle when I want to get 50 mpg.
