Need some honest opinions.
No sugarcoating necessary. I'm struggling with this decision so don't worry about being too blunt. I'm getting close to done with my truck but really hate the wheels that are on it. I love the Rallye look but want 18s and they only come in Billet at too steep a price. My second choice is in the link below. If I do this, I plan to put 17x8s in the front and 18x9s in the rear. Tires size will be 255/60r17 in the front (30.5" tall) and 275/60r18 in the rear (31" tall). I just think the torq-thrust style wheel is more period correct for my truck. Any opinions welcomed.

Re: Need some honest opinions.
Scott, first off it was a pleasure meeting you and your wife this weekend. I only wish I could have spent a little more time chatting with you both.
Secondly, I loved the look of your truck but have to agree with the current wheel selection. You can get a set of rallys' custom built by a company (I'm drawing a blank) for a fairly decent price the last I looked. I do like the Rocket boosters you posted above, but I would consider starting a thread in the photoshop area and have some of our talented members take a stab at "mounting" some different wheels on your truck before you have to spend the money. This might end up saving you a little money and a night or two on the couch. ![]() Be sure to give my best to your wife, and I can't wait to see you guy's again.

Re: Need some honest opinions.
One question, are you planning on lowering the truck more, or is it going to sit as it... well sits?

Re: Need some honest opinions.
I think the wheels you have in the bottom picture would loock much better than the ones on the truck now. The ones on the truck now would look a ton better on a 4x4 with bigger tires.
The wheels you have pictured look like squared off Cragar SS's.

Re: Need some honest opinions.
www.Stocktonwheels.com should have aftermarket rally wheels in the sizes you desire.

Re: Need some honest opinions.
I have to agree the wheels that are on it now are ugly...I would suggest Coys for the price they are about the best thing out there. The torque thrust are great but I have had them in just about every vehicle I have owned...The wheel you posted looks pretty nice also...

No, I thought about lowering it when I swapped everything over to 5 lug and decided to keep it a stock height because it rode and drove so nice. I guess I see too many bad lowering jobs at my shop that I didn't want to risk ruining a good thing. Thats alot of the reason I want to go with the 17s and 18s. I want to fill up the fender wells more than the 15s will allow. If my measurements are right, it should be 4 1/2 to 5" taller with the bigger wheels. I also opted for the taller sidewall tires for that reason. Thanks for the kind words and advice. |

Re: Need some honest opinions.
Honestly I dont have many suggestions on new wheels, but you really should get new wheels because those wheels suck.
The wheels really depend on and make the look that you are trying to accomplish. BTW: Love the two tone paint though!

LOL....I asked for honest and this cracked me up. I agree. Had these wheels left over from something else but know they don't look good. I think they'd look best on a golf cart. |

Re: Need some honest opinions.
I think the wheels on there are more dated than anything... in the early 90s they were the shiznit.
The ones you posted look pretty sharp IMO. As for the drop comment, a mild drop will make it ride better than it does now from what I've seen. |

Re: Need some honest opinions.
For the time being I'd put a set of cheap rally's (maybe borrowed) on those tire's to keep the truck mobile and sell those wheels and use the money towards the ones you want. Someone will buy those, you know what they say about one man's junk....

Re: Need some honest opinions.
Yeah, the current wheels are Turd Fergusen ugly. The Rocket wheels will look good, but only if you lower it a couple inches. Without lowering the truck it would look like a morphodite donkmobile - and no one wants that.

I think the five spokes with a 2.5 /4 drop would look good and ride great. I'm a little biased though.

Re: Need some honest opinions.
for a ride height, my obvious vote is to bag it. It'll still ride great, will be safe, and will look bad ass going down the highway.
I like this wheels you posted, but am a fan of factory rally's. I used Stockton Wheel for the wheels on my '50, and would recommend them to you. You can get whatever size/BS you need and get them powder coated there too. vette rally's with the center cap would be sweet. like what bob68327 has on his 50th |

Re: Need some honest opinions.
Most (if not all) 5 spoke wheels will only look good with the truck lowered. Otherwise, go with oem Ralleys.

Re: Need some honest opinions.
I liked the Rocket Booster wheels you picked but use them on the truck when it's a little lower, like say 2 1/2" x 4". Just MHO.

Re: Need some honest opinions.
scottrod71... after lowering my '69 4.5/6 I was a little concerned with how the ride was going to be, and suprisingly enough, it actually rides quite well. I doubt you would consider going as low as my truck, but I think you could shave off an inch or two and still have a smooth riding truck.
And, I'm in agreement with powell72, watch craigslist for a cheap set of 15" rallys, shoot a new coat of paint on them, mount your tires, and then sell the other set of wheels off. This will allow you more time to make your decision, as well as offset the cost of a new set of wheels.

Re: Need some honest opinions.
Thanks for all the feedback guys. It did confirm my thoughts about the wheels on the truck and some of the comments made me laugh out loud. Thats what I like about this forum, all you have to do is ask for help. I'll consider dropping the truck as it wouldn't take much to do that along with the wheels. So, on to the next issue..............anybody need wheels for their golf cart?

Re: Need some honest opinions.
Like the second wheels, but personally like the same diameter front to rear.
Just an opinion though.

Wow! Thanks Foosed. Hard to picture wheels without a visual like this. I have to agree with the others who said it looks better lowered.

That turned out nice, I think I see wheels/drop in your future.

Re: Need some honest opinions.
Nothing beats Cragar S/S. I don't care much for wheels bigger than 15" but have seen some really sharp ones. All depends on the wheel, tire and vehicle. Those wheels you have pictured will be nice with the proper tire and right stance.
