I put in my new blazer thank under the bed. Then I put the box back on and the cross rail is sitting right on the tank. More troubling is that it needs to slide forward about 3in, which would make the cross rail right over the filler. It is a long box, steel floor gmc box obviosly going on a lwb 71 chev. The solution I came up with is to notch out the cross sill.

Thanks for any advice.

Can you move the tank forward or backward a couple inches?

just like everyone else that runs a blazer tank.. gotta notch the rail...

The other option is to buy a factory blazer tank fill tube. It's curved to go around the cross rail.

I have a wood bed and just relocated my cross sill back.

Unfortunately most people find this out after buying a blazer tank upgrade for the trucks. My 70 Chevy short wide has the same problem. Most people will notch the bottom of the cross sill for clearance. I plan on selling mine and going for one of the aluminum or stainless tanks being made by some of the board members. It's a shame the vendors selling these tanks don't tell you about this.

Thanks for confirming that I need to cut it out. I don't know how I missed this step in my install research, because I read quite a few articles on the install and no one mentioned that it needs to be notched. The custom tanks are nice, and can see why people use them instead. So thanks for the good info and I will get out the cutting tools.

When you say notch the support, is it all the way across the top of the tank or just to clear the filler? I'm looking at doing this soon and will be forever grateful that this was said before I attempted the conversion. I have a wood bed BTW. Cnut
