I might cut and weld the towers or put a 1.5" spacer between te towe and the frame and just use longer bolts to secure it

newer style motor mounts
Alas, I must confess.... I'm pretty sure I was the party to whom you were referring. The pics are extememly helpful.... Just looking at them I'm trying to see if any of the top frame mount holes lined up or did you just split the difference? BTW, I'm putting one of those economical 468's in my '67. Thinking that the later style mounts are a bit more secure....

with the new towers on a old frame the bottom tower holes line up, its just that the top sits 1/5" above the frame, a good welder should be able to weld them solid enough...........I dont know.......

I know fer sure I've seen 73 and up mounts on the early frames and I didn't see the gap- is this just a problem with the '67 because i had to modify/ trim the upper rails for the '68 style mounts to fit anyways....

I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that I swapped in a 79 1/2 ton front x member?????????

ill try to get some close ups this weekend if the weather holds out. if i remember right , i drilled all my holes in the upper frame rail. i did a frame up and i put the motor where i wanted it , marked with a crayon, and started drilling. had to shorten the driveshaft 3". i left just enough room to get the dist. out and leave some clearance between the rocker covers. i did some tradeing for the headers, not sure but i think there headman. the fit perfect. im going with a coated set soon. now if i can just get the dang thing to hook up.............

oh yah, feel free to email me anytime, dont pm me, i never check it. i can help you make the swap. are you doing a frame off like i did , or are you just wanting to drop the motor in and go? i can give you measurements also , mine turned out perfect. the motor is in the exact location that i wanted it with plenty of room to spare. all the hard work payed off...........

I'd love to see some closeups. Is there in difference between car and truck style towers and new style mounts.

Dean, now that i think about it, the 85 mounts did not lay flat on the top frame rail, just like you said. i used a set from a 72 frame, it had the newer style mounts, and it was factory like that. if you have a 67 you will have to trim the top frame rail to get them to lay flat. 68 and up are trimed from the factory for the bbc......

??????????
Ok , now i'm confused . I used towers from a mid 80's 2WD burb to mount my 454 on the stock 67 C20 frame with original cross member. The lower contour of the burb tower and the 67 crossmember matched exactly and there was also no gap at the top of the rail . I did have to drill one new bottom hole and two new top holes and using the newer motor mounts the engine just droped right in . Also using the one original hole for a starting point my 454 still lined up with adequate clearance between the dist and fire wall . For some reason I did not have some of the above mentioned problems .

THIS IS A POST FROM LAST YEAR
Quote from old post "To follow up on the post I made above to Yukon Jack , today I took out the 6 CLY towers on my 67 C20 and tried the 84 burb 2WD towers and they will fit perfectly if I redrill 3 of the holes. The bottom of the towers even followed the contour of the 67 crossmember exactly . Then I swung the 454 in to the engine bay , This is a 1977 - 454 with standard motor mounts , it went in and lined up with the holes in the towers so well that I was able to drop the motor mount bolts in by just wiggeling the engine a couple of times and it turned out to be the easiest drop in I have ever done . Like other 67's and a big block the top edges of the valve covers come close to the fire wall corners , so when the engine comes out to redrill the tower mounting holes I will also elongate the holes so I can get some adjustment " if " I need it . For those of you that are thinking of a BB in a 67 , these towers work

for some reason my 85 towers would not lay flat on the top frame rail, but then again, they came out of a 85 1 ton dully......and i think the frames are taller on 1 tons?
