alternator conversion
hey all
I have a '61 with a '87 350 in it, with I think a '73ish water pump. I had the original generator in there it just died so I was going to swap out the alternator and regulator from my '66 will this work ok? also my generator is on the drivers side and I am having a problem finding brackets for that side. any suggestions? thanks |

that would only work if you don't have power steering, I believe it takes that spot. I personally dont like to hang accessories low as it makes them harder to get to. You need to find the brackets for a factory style set up, that looks like this:

cool thanks for the reply
I got it in with a combo of parts from both trucks in the stock location. now I have a stupid question: the round capciter looking thing on the regulator (forgot what is called) where does it hook to. no I don't have a pic. I just looked at my bros '66 and he doesn't have it so maybe it is not necessary?
the problem I am having is the alt light (dash) is on, and when I disconnect the bat truck dies there are three wire coming off the generator (black, green{f}, brown{A}) the alt harness has red(bat) yellow(R) green(F) I think I am just going to buy a new alt and do the upgrade correctly. thanks for your help though Last edited by Dr_Spankenstein; 09-19-2009 at 03:52 PM. |

Converting to an internally regulated alternator is easy as can be and takes no time at all.
