Stock Tire Size
Can someone please tell me the stock tire size is for a 1/2 ton 1970 C-10? I have searched and cannot find it. I have two different size tires on my truck so I am not sure which is correct. Also I was wondering what load factor we should look for when looking for new tires?
Thanks |

Re: Stock Tire Size
Usually, they used a 9.5 x 15 (no profile back in the day). In today's standards, it's around a 235/75/15 I believe. Plus, unless you're going 100% stock, just get what fits, looks good and serves your purpose. If you're hauling enough to be concerned about load rating, you probably need a 3/4 ton, seriously. The tires today are pretty tolerant to any load you're going to put in that thing.
If you want to go slightly bigger, you should be able to run a 31 x 10.50 x 15 with little trouble. |

Re: Stock Tire Size
Mine apparently was equipped with L78-15's as delivered, but G's were supposedly the factory spec. The letter is supposed to indicate a load rating, but in order to reach that load rating the tire diameters changed as well. The closest in dimensions to a G78-15 would be the (P or LT)235/75R15 mentioned.
Gear ratios for the speedometer were not all that high of a priority back then, apparently. Coker tires' website is one place where you can find cross-reference charts for some tire sizes...anyone else know a few?

Re: Stock Tire Size
I believe the most popular load rating for 1/2 tons back in the day was "D."
