exhaust on a slammed c-10
what are you guys doing for a exhaust on a truck that lays frame?? Do just run it out before the axle?? search button does not work for me???

The amount of patience you have (or the size of your checkbook) are a big factor in determining which is best.

I agree witht he short headers or even stock rams heads maifolds then run along side the tranny and over the trans X memeber what to do next is still puzzlng to me but it seems some guys have cut a hole in the frame welded in a piece of pipe then got it outside the frame rail before the trailing arms....I have long tubes and mine goes under the X memeber so I drag my exhaust when I dump with cupped LCA and a 2 " c nocth

Thanks for the help. That is all done the road. I am doing rust repair now on the cab and want it back together before the snow flys so I can drive it a little...

I'm running sanderson shorty headers with my pipes up between the frame rails and dumped before the rear axle.

I ran mine from manifolds and they are turned down just shy of the back of the cab. It's loud, but the 8 valves are by the back of the cab, so I couldn't get it back any farther.

I ran shorties inside the rails thru the crossmember and dump in front of the diff. Nothing hangs below the frame rails.

My 3" mandrel exhaust was run like Jamis's. I still had to determine the final configuration on ride height & suspension parts so that's where it stopped. I will be routing it all the way back to the rear bumper.... no dumps for me.

I don't like dumps either but I can't see how to get over the axle betwem the pumpkin and a watts link I dont see the room below the bed...maybe I need to put stacks on it?? truth be told I have been thinking a set of retro side pipes but they need to be long enough to look right???

Looks great why not a x or h pipe in there?I have seen oval exhaust piping now which would work good on something lowered and need a big pipe.

I'll have an genIII engine in mine and the long tube headers I'm using are pretty much within the frame rails. I have an X-pipe in mine, so I couldn't get it through the trailing arm crossmember, so it runs underneath.
If I didn't have the X-pipe it would go through the trailing arm crossmember pretty easily. I'm not that low, so I wasn't too concerned about it. The exhaust dumps before the rear axle. |

1/2 the guys on this site.
The 'side pipe' idea can work 'cause we've done a similar stealth system (we did my buddies old 65 that way). The exhaust was a set of 2.5" Ram Horns w/2.5" pipe that immediately 90 degreed to outside the framerails. He put his mufflers on the outside of the frame under the cab & routed the tips of the pipe out in front of the rear tires. Painted the pipe w/black VHT high temp engine paint to keep it less obvious.

If that's toward me, unfortunately I can't. This was back in the mid 90's & the truck met an early demise after an a-arm had an abrupt meeting w/a manhole cover that was exposed about 1.5" from the road surface. No.1 reason why I don't like dropped a-arms (he wouldn't listen to me & swap to discs & dropped spindles).
