LS swap
So im toying around with the idea of swapping in a LS2 motor into my 70 SWB but im quite a novis, My question is has anyone here done one of these and if so what is involved, Im aware that the motor mounts and prolly the trans mounts have to be moved or changed, another question is should i go with the 4l60 or can i use the 700r4 that is waiting to be installed... is there any mods the need to be done to the trans tunnel or firewall? any help would be greatly appriciated!

Re: LS swap
Assuming you are keeping the fuel injection, I would go with the 4L60E since you already have the computer to run it. If you stick with the 700r4 you will probably have issues with the TV cable.
Good luck! |

Re: LS swap
You can use the 700R4, just have to get the TV cable set up right.
I am finishing up my swap and it is amazing how things just fit nearly perfectly, like it was meant to be in there. Cant wait to fire it up and drive it around!!

Re: LS swap
Go with the 4L60E. 700 throttle valve cable problems aside the full bellhousing of the 4L60E is a structural member of the engine. and the "E" converter is bigger and you dont have to deal with a crank spacer. buy a complete package buying parts one at a time for LS series engines gets expensive.

Re: LS swap
No sheetmetal mods. the motor mounts will need to be modified. Trans-Dapt and Street&Performance are some companys that offer conversions using a stock mount(67-72). The oil pan is another concern depending on what platform you get the engine from (GTO,Corvette,CTS-V).

Re: LS swap
im thinking either from a GTO or a Vette, but ya know if i could get into a ls7 or the ls9 that would be alright too LOL, I dont know if its realistic or not, but i want to squeeze about 500+ hp out of the motor with just bolt ons and still make good mpg and the like... is this a reasonable thing to ask???

Re: LS swap
Already mentioned, but Street and Performance in Mena, AR has done these and has the stuff you need. Seems like their website has a 67-72 on the home page that has had an LS-swap and they documented it.

Re: LS swap
A Regular Production Option (RPO) is a General Motors standard coding for vehicle configuration options. These codes are a combination of 3 alphanumeric characters and refer to a specific option or modification to the vehicle. These codes signify how the vehicle is built during production and thus the specific configuration of a vehicle as it exits the factory up to and including the paint color can be described by specifying the base model and the complete list of RPO codes used during production. Even a vehicle with no extra-cost options will have some RPOs, as information like the the engine type and exterior paint color are always specified.

Re: LS swap
I am using the truck 6.0 pan, depending on your ride height it might be OK.

500 to the wheels will take a properly set up combination, we have done it in a 05 GTO with Advanced Induction CNCd 243 heads, FTI Tiger Shark Cam, other needed bolt ons.

Re: LS swap
My vote is for a 6.0L truck engine. Do a heads and cam swap. You'll already have the right pan to fit your cross member and from a cubic inch standpoint you'll already be up on the earlier corvette and f-body's. 6.0L vs. 5.7L
If you're talking about the later versions then of course it doesn't matter. Either way I think you'll be happy with your efforts no matter what LS you decide to go with. |

Re: LS swap
yeah i sounds like the 6.oL is the way to go, as far as 500hp if it was at the crank the would probaly get me into enuff trouble... and the tire store would love seeing me com around... LOL
