Front Sheetmetal removal? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I will be doing a cab swap in the near future and I would like to take off the front end in one piece.

I am just trying to plan it out first so let me run this by you guys first.
truck is a 67 gmc

1. remove headlight/turn signal wiring and battery
2. remove radiator
3. unbolt rad support
4. unbolt large cab to inner fender bolt
5. remove cowl
6. unbolt fender to cab bolts

Is that it? any thing else I am missing or tips?

Hopefully someone who has done this will chime in. When I got my 72 it didnt have a front clip so I am of no good to you. Good luck.

I've done it once but it was years ago.IIRC there are 13 bolts to remove the front clip.The ones you mentioned are the ones I remember.

Off the top of my head I'd say bumper, windshield washer lines and A/C lines if it has it and remote power steering reservoir if it has it. Oh and the strap on the D.S. inner fender that goes around the steering shaft and I think there is one ground strap on the pass side towards the front of the inner fender. You'll have to lift and slide forward at the same time so the inner fenders will come out from under the cab.

Easier to pull the whole clip, or just the fenders? I see it as less work just to pop the fenders off, no need to mess with the rad and the electrics on the core support

i would like to pull the front to clean up the frame and paint it.

Remove windshield wiper arms and antenna
Remove cowl
Remove Bolts from fenders to cab
Remove bumper Remove wiring/battery and rediator as stated above
Get one guy on each side and one in the front, and lift off

Radiator support will lift off with the fenders, hood and grille

I see it as less work to pull the clip as 1-piece vice separately due to all the alignment and shimming to get it perfect when re-installing...
Also, I looked through the FAQ pages and couldn't find a procedure, so I'll have to wing it I guess.

Radiator and/or support. Headlight wires. Wiper-cowl. Inner-fender bolts to cab bolts.

Anything else ?? It's my first time...

He removes the hood in the write up, apparently not necessary to do so.

I am doing this soon too. I have removed the front clip from Jeeps this way, and it makes it a LOT easier going back together as one piece, and not having to shim the fenders and hood.
