What kind of "caps" are you talking about? Did you look in LMC http://www.lmctruck.com/ At somepoint in the future I will have a set of "dog bowl" hub caps those are the stock small factory hub caps.

The centers are a stick on label. There are several companies the make restoration quality wheels as I recqall they also have the centers availible. Wheel vintiques is one company. Check the company names as one has had problems in the past. If you do a search on the name if it has a bad reputation the post will come up in your search. There is a supporting vendor on here the guy goes by Capt Kaoss he has a lot of stuff for sale. Most used stuff is pretty well beat up. The factory orginals were pot metal and they get pitted rather easy. I think LMC's are plastic.

Re: stock wheels and center caps.

Here's how they look restored:

That's with the wheel repainted argent silver (Dulpicolor FM149), a nice driver quality trim ring (not the correct factory ring), caps polished and base repainted, and correct replacement lug nuts.

I don't remember a "special edition" badge in the center; only the appropriate year bowtie or GMC emblem.

Guys - be advised those are ABS plastic. The originals were die cast metal.

If they are anything like the caps on my car trailer I would expect them to look good for about 1 year before turning green.

FWIW -

Re: stock wheels and center caps.

Good catch Keith. Thanks for being the voice of reason here. But depending on where the vehicle will be run, and in what kinds of weather, they should hold up decent I would think. And the OP is in CA, so my guess is that they would last a fair while anyway.

May also check out the salvage yards. Sometimes you get lucky. Last time I was up there with Joe231 he found a real nice center cap.

look for a local hub-cap place. I went to one in OKC. They had several good OE (metal) caps that just needed some TLC for $15 each
