Vintage Air Block Off Plates - Paint em or Not? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Just received my new Vintage Air system and before I start installing I am trying to decide whether or not to go ahead and paint the firewall block off plates...or just leave them black??

The AC was a bit of an after thought, otherwise I would have just shaved that area...I'd probably drop them off at my painters place and let him shoot them so that its a perfect match?

Here's the firewall & the covers...Any opinions would be appreciated!

I would say paint match them. The less different colors in the engine bay the better.

Id say leave them black to match the inner fenders and radiator support plus slightly more stock look

Yea...I was thinking body color originally....but thats a good point about appearing more stock....especially since my build is mostly stock...Huh?

I made a billet aluminum panel to replace the plastic ones and had it painted to match the body. I just used some allen head bolts to attach it to the firewall. I will post a pic of my firewall. I also left my vent door in the passenger side and put a handle on it. It will still open and close with the Vintage Air installed.

It's ugly and my rule is to paint anything ugly the same color as the surrounding area to make it go away (i.e., hood hinges, latches, fenderwells, radiator support, etc.). If your firewall was black, I would say leave it but with the body color firewall, I think paint matching is better. Maybe you can mock it up in that location first and see if you like black?
