Opinions on Value Please
I went to look at this 72 Burb today. It is mostly original but the trans is pooched and when it started up it blew balck smoke real bad . Its been parked outsude since November 2000 and started once or twice yearly. The man is asking 5000.00 ( must have been watching Barrett-Jackson reruns before he priced it). I made him an offer and am waiting for him to get back to me. This would be long term project for me. Looking for opinions as on what you think I should pay for the Burb.
I am adding for more pictures on the next thread.

I know the buckets are not original but is the console? The man also has the original bench seat.

Re: Opinions on Value Please
From the passenger side picture it looks like it would be needing rockers, and door bottoms replaced. How does the floor look?
Just off of the pictures I would say 2,000, but I am a cheap bastard.

Re: Opinions on Value Please
Based on what I see 2000-2500. Undercarrage might dictate slightly less.

Re: Opinions on Value Please
If it were running in the shape its in I'd say about 2500-3000
But as is undrivable 1200-2000 would seem fair.

Re: Opinions on Value Please
It looks like a rusty beast to me, and from the outside alone there is a lot of metal work in it's future. A lot of the places that are rusted, are areas that would require fab work which = big $$ for for a body shop. You'd prolly have to find a solid donor burb for those pieces.
But then I am a so called "spoiled Californian" when it comes to rust, others may drool over this and call it nothin. 5 grand is too steep IMO

Re: Opinions on Value Please
I would not pay more than $1,000 since it has a big block. I just can't stand any rust.

Re: Opinions on Value Please
the console came out of a 76 to 80 or so truck, very close to what woulda been in there originally if it was a bucket truck. It probably came from the same truck that donated the steering wheel, cruise control parts, and speedometer.
Personally, a rusted up burb that isn't driveable, with the big block, $1000 tops. 5 grand is way too much |

Re: Opinions on Value Please
Since I posted this thread thew man called me back and said he'd take my offer. I really appreciate your comments and yes I know when I start into it I will find demons I am not expecting but after looking for years I found one locally and although I won't say what I paid let me say most of you guys are right around what I offered. I'm 60 years old and going to retire in afew years and I am not the kind of guy to sit around so this Burb will be my retirement project.
I already have some ideas on what I want to do with the Burb. First I want to put a 68 clip on it and that will probably take some time to find.

Re: Opinions on Value Please
in this case i think it does only because you said it smoked bad. a bbc is going to be more expensive than a sbc.

Re: Opinions on Value Please
the BBC makes it worth more... considerably.
If it was a small block burb in that shape with a bad tranny, I'd consider 500 bucks... and it'd be a parts truck. |

Re: Opinions on Value Please
really i suppose it depends on what the person's plans are when they say it's a "project". if i'm looking for a project to customize, a BBC is less desirable only because it inflates the price of the base vehicle.
Now, if you're looking for a high option base project and plan to restore it, then yeah, it makes sense to pay the extra cost up front for the bbc. smoking or not. ultimately, you can drop a BBC in anything. especially our trucks. |

Re: Opinions on Value Please
BBC in my oppinion is a bonus.
Cost over SBC? pfft, who cares... Since the difference is practically not even worth mentioning. Congrats on getting the deal, and welcome to the burb club my friend! Please be sure to post many pictures of your projects on the burb!

Re: Opinions on Value Please
Having all the BB brackets and most everything under hood original makes the burb worth ALOT more. Also with tilt and If it were a original cheyenne super it would be nice if your doing the rebuild, I don't think it is a orignal super though, and I can't read the spid sheet. The rust will be the bad thing about it. I'd say if you got it for $1500-2000 you did fine. As andy said the BB is a bonus.

Re: Opinions on Value Please
It has some good options. Big block, A/C, tilt, cruise and such. My opinion would be around $2,000. If you have the patience and money and time, it could be a pretty sweet ride. Congrats on the purchase. And if YOU think you did ok on it, our opinions don't matter much. Eric

Re: Opinions on Value Please
BB makes it worth more since a rebuildable BB core can be sold for quite a bit, along with the accessories, brackets, pulleys, motor mounts, etc. Otherwise, I would say its a junker not worth anything except salvage or parts value. Does cost more to rebuild but not that much more and it will increase the final value, too.

Re: Opinions on Value Please
BIG BLOCK trucks definately bring more money than their small block counterparts. The big block brackets for the A/C, power steering, etc.. alone are worth a combined total of about $600. All of the other big block special components (motor stands, exhaust hangers, tranny linkage, etc.. etc..) add at least another $600. Any big block truck no matter how beat up if complete is worth at least $1,000.
I guess it doesn't matter since you already bought it but down here that truck would bring between $1,200 -$1,500 bucks as a parts truck. However with all the options it has I could see it bringing up to $2,000-$2,500 for someone who is wanting to restore it. From a fellow factory big block suburban owner, welcome to the suburban club. Definately interested in seeing more on this one!

Re: Opinions on Value Please
I saw randy's comment on it being a cheyenne super. As fas as I'm aware, you could only get up to a custom deluxe on a burb. I would say as far as a parts rig, it should be worth 1200 bucks. But since you're looking at a retirement restoration project, I would say all the way up to 2k.

Re: Opinions on Value Please
Thanks for all the comments. I was thinking the BB would add value to the truck. I will take another pic of the spid when I get it home cause it is almost impossible to read the way I took the pic.
Longhorn Man Andy you are the Burb guru, was the Cheyenne package available in 1972 or was the Custom/Deluxe Package like this Burb has the highest trim option you could get?

Re: Opinions on Value Please
Someone got woodgrain applique happy, no Cheyenne offered in Burbs
It's a custom deluxe model with all the hints of it being a 72 Highlander Custom deluxe trim level Parchment door panels/seatbelts black dashpad and carpet Tilt A/C, tinted glass Auto Nothing on spid about promo package I can read however Is back seat recovered to match the front, or is it original? If orginal is it blue or grey plaid, or just white vinyl? If you want to get rid of that GMC console badge I have a bowtie one to replace it
