Unhappy Suspension Woes

So I have the 2" drop springs installed and the height looks the same. Also, this shackle and hanger kit from Summit requires notching the rear support. I wasn't aware of that! I guess thats how all shackle kits are? Anway, since the front sits kinda high, I only did the hangers to lower the rear 2". Will that cause any issues with the pinion angle?

Re: Suspension Woes

On everyone else's drop springs, did they settle at all? I'm getting about an inch drop from 2" drop springs. Should I expect these to go down in time some?

Re: Suspension Woes

Did you make sure the top of the front springs are "clocked" correctly to seat in the front crossmember spring pocket?
There is a round groove in the upper spring pocket that the spring sets in.

You also have to remember that these springs are 2" shorter than brand new stock height springs,... not springs that are 23 years old. I'm sure your old springs were sagging a little.

The best bet is to find a truck that has the "look" you like,... and find out what they did to lower it.

The shackle/hanger kit only requires notching if you have a 52" rear leaf spring.
The trucks with 56" rear leaf springs do not require notching the bed rail.

Lowering is an addiction. You will always want to go lower.

Re: Suspension Woes

Mine settled a little. But again, the static drop is measured from new stock height. Cut half a coil if you need. And, yes there is a "go lower" bug that bit me a while back. I am low, but I keep thinking..."just another inch."

Re: Suspension Woes

I figured my old sagging springs made the truck sit lower to begin with... I don't know if the new ones are 'clocked' in. I dont really feel good about dealing with coil springs under pressure so I had a shop swap them out.. I hope they put them in right.

I'll be happy with a 3/4 since this is my driver I dont want to do too low. Kameron, did you use 3" drop springs? I may have to go that route since I dont want spindles to push the wheels out.

The 73 has 3" springs and the 77 has 3" spindles

I've had plenty of low trucks, its just not practical to me anymore.

Well, I'm being picky. The front 2" springs still leave a good 3" of gap between the tires I"m running. Also, one sides sits 1/2" higher than the other up front.

And the rear (used only the hangers so far) is giving me some vibration from the pinion angle being off.

I think I'll go for a 3" drop up front and use the shackles in the back for a 4" drop.

I'm just not sure of how to get a good 3" drop. Kameron, do your 3" drop spindles push your wheels out? Any issues with them? What brand?

Re: Suspension Woes

They did seem to push the wheels out a little bit, they are DJM brand, the only issue I had was I had to grind the top of the caliper and spindle to get my 15 in rallie to fit.
