straight pipes

I have a 68 lwb and it has a i6, i think its a 250 or 292 im not sure, with a split header and i was fooling around the other day and took one exhaust pipe off just to see what it'd sound like, and, boy oh boy was it loud and mean, but i soon realized that i lost most of my back pressure and most of my horses. i called a friend and he told me that if i cut my pipes to right behind the muffler i'll get about the same sound and still have my backing pressure and all my horses will stay the same. i was just wondering what you guys have to say about it? i want it loud but i dont have the money for flows or packs right now.

Re: straight pipes

Cutting it behind the muffler won't make it any louder at all. Thats what the mufflers for, muffling the sound. My exp with I6s would tell me that maybe a glass pack would make it sound ok, but not great. In my opinion only suped up engines should be made loud, any close to stock engines with a loud exhaust is pretty douchey. Not many other ppl like other ppls loud rides, they are annoying and you might wake up to find your truck keyed, happens here all the time.
