Re: super chager.....
not all of us are running superchargers, some of us run Nitrous and some run turbos..................JK
give some info on your engine and transmission before we can help you. If you have a nice ZZ502 Big block, you'd neeed something quite different from a stock 350

Re: super chager.....
I have a Procharger on my boat running 7 psi of boost and it gives me 540 HP from a 383 I am running a intercooler but still have to use 92 octane gas. The unit was simple to install and cost $4800. Procharger says you can run them on a healthy stock engine. What I like most is you cruise at less RPM's

Re: super chager.....
if you're wanting to run much boost, you'll have to get that compression ratio down a couple points... So figure some new dished pistons into the equation from the get-go.

Re: super chager.....
Your compression is pretty high for a street supercharger. Are you looking for the performance or for the "WOW" factor? Most recommendations for a street supercharged engine I have seen try to limit CR to about 8:1.Not trying to rain on your parade but you really need to balance the combination to make a supercharger work well.

Re: super chager.....
As outlined above, you've really got too much compression to run a blower. 9:1 is probably about the max you should run on the street with a blower...and that's max. Less would be better.
nevertheless, a lot of people don't think about them much anymore but the older style roots draw-thru street blowers really work pretty good for what they are, and the beauty of them is that they are cheap in comparison to the centrifugal chargers. Another bonus is that one of those will fit under the stock hood in our trucks. I'm referring to something like a Weiand or B&M 144, 112 Magna-Charger, etc. If you look around you can pick one of those up for under $1000....they are real easy to install, still have good driveability, good blower sound (whine), and they make pretty impressive power....a lot of torque, which is good for our trucks too b/c lets face it, they are heavy vehicles. You can run a regular Holley or Edelbrock carb with the draw-thru design too....no need for high dollar blow-thru prepped carbs with positive floats, etc. I have a friend that used to run an older B&M on a fairly mild combination 350 SBC in a 68' GMC.....it had just enough duration with the cam that when combined with the blower sounded tough as nails at idle. The only problem with the truck is that he could never get it to hook....but from a roll it surprised a lot of people.

Re: super chager.....
My buddy has a 300hp GM crate motor, with a 142cu. weiand supercharger, with a single 750 carb with 6lbs of boost and it made 417hp and 505lbs of torque to the tire, I thought that was dang good for a stock crate 350..350 was around 2200$ and supercharger was 1900$ not bad..

OR........if you wanna retain SOME fuel economy (with more initial expense), go with a Edelbrock or TFS Eaton-based MP122 blower.

Re: super charger.....
I'm like the rest of you, Ive got a craving for power.... but I'm not sure witch way i wanna go about it.... with a super charger i could get away with premium, with a high dome piston id have to go high octane than that.... but nitrous i think is a cheap but efficient way to go, but I'm not sure what i wanna do yet.... I've managed to come across a lot of stuff this far. maybe ill find a good deal on the other stuff i want to.

Re: super charger.....
Pros about a super charger or blower is that it's constant power. The NOS is just a button that can't be used all the time. This is assuming we are talking on the street.

Re: super charger.....
I'm running a Vortech supercharger on my 383. It's got 9:1 compression and dyno'd over 630 TQ and HP, . I've been very happy with it.

Re: super charger.....
If you go with anything but a roots blower you might be able to get away with that compression. Roots is cool but roots intake temps are hot!!
I have run moderate turbo setups on engines from 9 to 10 compression on 93 octane without issues. |
