Here is a good one......

Drove a 60 mile round trip this morning never shut off the truck..Got home shut if off and unloaded the new tires..Took all of 10 min.. I got back in it to crank it up and nothing..

Every thing lights up but I do not hear the fuel pump and the starter does not even click. Is there a fuse I should be looking for??

Thanks!!!!

Re: Here is a good one......

starting system is not fused.
that's really all the help i have, besides checking the odvious looking for bad connections to battery or ground, or if the fuel pump went at an odd time.

Re: Here is a good one......

Not saying for sure it is your fuel pump but, I did have a fuel pump go out that randomly on my 94.
I backed it out of the garage on a Friday night to dust it off for a car show the next morning, it started just fine. I then dusted and wiped on the truck for about 10 to 15 minutes, went to start it to pull it back into the garage and nothing...the replaced the fuel pump the next morning.

Re: Here is a good one......

If the positive cables, which are stacked, have any corrosion between them in spite of how clean the battery terminals look.....no current flow. In addition, that corrosion will eat up the bolt that holds the pair of cables to the battery......trust me. Sounds like it's worth a look-see.

I was gonna say fuel pump, but I've never heard of one not working, then working again. Chev's suggestion about the battery cables is as good a place to start as any.

Re: Here is a good one......

Also, there is a fuel pump relay under the black plastic cover on the pass. side firewall.
I would check it too.

I replaced mine before I did my fuel pump. It was cheap and worth taking the gamble. I would've hated to change the fuel pump and it be that relay.

This make me think bad connections at the battery or a weak battery.

Re: Here is a good one......

exactly mine would ALWAYS have hot start problems. It start fine and run until up to temp, then it crank forever and never start, let it set longer and it start up fine.

You can try what they told me, if it does it again hook a jumper cable off the battery hot to the jnuction box under the cover on the pass. side firewall, if it starts then the main feed for the junction box is bad and needs cleaned or changed.

If still nothing then maybe the main hot is bad going to the starter, which since you had lights would probably be the case. I had everything cranking and all but mine would loose all power while it cranked to everything, only the starer had power.

Re: Here is a good one......

mine did this too, i ended up putting a new negative ground terminal on. definatley check your battery ground, or also the ground running from the batt to the starter. those are the two places that had issues on mine when it did that.

Re: Here is a good one......

We ran our '97 dually all day towing, pulled in and fueled up, no start. Called wrecker, Wrecker driver had me turn ignition switch on, crawled under, hit the fuel tank with his fist. Fuel pump started and I drove it to his shop. Killed it to unhook TT. Wouldn't start again, so he towed into his shop to replace fuel pump.

Re: Here is a good one......

It did it again last night.. I was unloading some firewood backed down to almost the same spot. This time every thing works but it wont start. I can hear the fuel pump and the starter is spinning...I let it sit for a few hours but still would not start..I have had trouble like this before and it always seems to happen when I am facing up a steep hill. Most of the time I can back down to a level spot and it will fire up this time I have no way to back it I will have to pull it up the hill...O and yes there is gas in it

It has decided to rain today so I may not get to look at it today..I will clean and check the battery cables as soon as I can..

Thanks...........

Re: Here is a good one......

My bet is that your starter is going out. When the bushings get badly worn, it lets the armature come in very close contact with the stator windings and they kinda glue together with magnetic attraction. Slide under the truck and whack it a couple of good licks with a Ford wrench and if that helps, there's your problem. Been there, done that, exact same scenario.

Re: Here is a good one......

How much gas do you have in the truck? It could be the pickup tube inside the tank.

That's is what I thought at first too but it had a 1/4 of a tank....Hopefully that's is enough to shut off your truck on a slope....

I went out yesterday and cleaned the battery cables. They did not look dirty but they got a good cleaning any way... Then I went after the wires under the junction box I had in the past 2 weeks redone the 3 ground wires under there so this time I cleaned all the hot wires.. One did look dirty it was the first on the left of the strip..I guess I have to wait and see if this fixed it.

Thanks for all the help...

Glad it's going again. If it does it again I think I would check the starter. Could just be the beginning of it going south.
