Need backspacing advice

Have a '68 Fleetside with the stock 6 x 5.5" rims and stock rear end. A friend has a set of 6 on 5.5" 20" Torque Thrust rims that he's willing to sell me for $180 for the pair (they are new). They are good-looking, but have a 5.5" backspacing.

Will these work...or will they rub or create other issues? Thinking of running a 265 or 275 rear tire (either 45 or 50 aspect ratio). Would put matching 18/45-50/225 on the front (what Backspace would you recommend?)

Open to any and all input...thanks in advance for your help.

Also...would you convert front to 5 on 4.75 or 5 (converting to front discs right now)...or just stay with the 6 on 5.5" pattern all four corners. I know 6 on 5.5" lessens my rim choices. Would 6 lug on the back and 5 lug on the front make me a nerd? haha

Re: Need backspacing advice

I think the 5.5" bs on the "narrower" 67-70 rearend will be too much bs.

You can probably move them out a little with spacers.
Can you borrow one for a test fit to make sure it doesn't rub the wheel tub?

Also,... in my opinion,... a 6-lug wheel front and rear is the only way to go,... unless you convert to 5x5 all the way around.
Stay away from a 5x4.75 pattern due to the availabilty of a bolt in rearend or axles in that same bolt pattern.
Keep it simple.

Do you have disc brakes up front or plan to install them?

Re: Need backspacing advice

i have 4wheel disc all 5x4.75....its not bad at all....if you want the car pattern go for it, i did. i just took a rear end from a 97 z28 camaro....cut off all the brackets and made some for my rearend to hold on to trailing arms and wrks good....just measure measure measure...the 97 z28 rearend was only like an inch or 2 shorter than my factory 68 rearend...

Re: Need backspacing advice

I am putting discs up front. I may just keep the fronts 6 on 5.5 as once I get the rims I want I'll probably stick with them....most of the rims I like TT2, rallyes, etc. are classic and won't go out of style. I think you are right in the 5.5" BS being a bit much. Probably 4.5 on the rear and 4 on the front would work...right?

Thanks to all for your input....great forum help.
