leaf spring bolt removal
hey guys im in the process of taking out my leaf springs but they are giving me some issues.i soaked them in wd-40 and left it for a while and the nuts wouldn't come off so i cut the heads of of the bolts and tried beating them out well i got 2 of them out this way but the other 2 won't come out.i beileve the bolts are rusted into that metal sleeve so if you guy shave any tips on how to get these last 2 out it would be very helpful...

the same thing happend to me when i tried removing one on my 78 k10
it was like so rusted and rotten it almsot sorta morphed itself into the sleeve i took a hammer and a punch and hit it like 154985354 times and kept soaking it in wd40 and it eventually started tapping out it took FOREVER |

This is how I did it. I did get all the nuts off, God I LOVE a torch. Next I spread the hangers just a touch. Next, with a sawsall, cut the bolt inside the hanger being careful not to cut the hanger at all. Once the bolts are cut, press in new bushings and replace the bolts. Anti seize the new bolts and the sleeve inside the bushing. jim

If you have already cut the heads off of the bolts, why not just cut the other end off too? It may take a little prying, but it will come out that way.

On my '73, the bushings got replaced. I was able to take enough of the bolt out with the torch so I could drop the spring eye down. Once down, I just heated the bolt/sleeve until I was able to push them out of the bushing (caution-HOT). In my case, I didn't see the point in trying to save 35 yr. old bushings.

well i dont got a sawzall but ill keep beating it for now then ill just borrow one from work if they dont come out by beating it. thanks for all the replys
