door wont open

I am trying to remove my passenger door. Keeping the door closed, I removed the bolts from the hinges and then tried to open the door and remove it. It would not open so I tightened the hinges back up and it still wont open. The door was working fine prior to loosening the hinges. Anybody have any suggestions?

Re: door wont open

Did you give it a good pull? There's no direct connection between the hinges and the opener. My guess the full weight of the door is on the striker and it's going to take more force than it normally would.

Re: door wont open

BA screwdriver, inserted into the gap between the door and the fender may be all you need.

Re: door wont open

You might also try lifting up on it some.Sometimes they wear a bit and droop so the latch doesn't release very well.

Re: door wont open

I've tried everything, locked, unlocked, lifted up on it, done everything but hook a come-a-long to it and jerk the dam thing open. I really dont want to pry on anything and cause any body damage.

Re: door wont open

Does the handle function? Try and have a buddy push from the inside while holding the latch open . I had to kick my XJ open from the inside once. Not suggested but I had no one to hold the handle open.

yes the handle does operate, I looked in between the door and saw it was still functional. I think once I get a second hand I will have someone hold the handle while I kick it from the inside. Hopefully that works.

Re: door wont open

Please clear something up for me. Why is it so important to try removing the door when it's closed? Are you parked next to a wall or something?

I was by myself, did not have anything to prop it up while I was removing the hinges.
