17,000 mile 1976 SILVERADO Barrett-Jackson

I was looking at all of the GM collection vehicles that were sold at B-J Palm springs auction and found this '76 Silverado c10 long box with a 454. The truck sold for $29,150.
http://www.barrett-jackson.com/appli...&ed=04/11/2009http://www.barrett-jackson.com/appli...&ed=04/11/2009
Lot Number 330.1 It is about 1/3 of the way down.

I've never seen the wood grain insert in the steering wheel.

I was watching when that sold. Funny thing was, there was this really nice 30's Ford street rod style show truck there too. Awesome paint, interior, all chromed out and polished even on the under side, and it sold for half of what this truck did.

That's a sharp looking truck. It's nice to see survivors like that. Looks like Frank missed one to buy up.

Those bumpers are easily bent. Just about every one I see that style is done like that. The one that Joe231 got from me was the same way.

I thought it was the same truck I saw on an auction awhile back, but it wasn't. Close though, whoever bought this other one might want to sell it...

I think my 77 was an exception to the norm, when I bought the p/u it was completly stock and the diamond plate bumper was in excellant condition. Then I got the "great" idea to cut it off, shoulda just left it alone like that wife said to. Like when I got another "great" idea to take the trim off.

That was almost like looking at my 73 that I bought out of Kansas . Weird ! Mine was almost the exact same truck except mine was a Cheyenne Super and had 64,xxx miles or so . These Kansas farmers must really take care of these things . Mine even had a Purplewave keychain on the keys when I picked it up . I wonder if there is a way to search archives to see if it sold through that auction site before the guy I bought it from picked it up .

Someone paid too much ( with fees 32,000 I bet), in my opinion. Prolly caught up in Auction fever. A very nice truck!

Re: 17,000 mile 1976 SILVERADO Barrett-Jackson

The whole notion of sellng off the gm collection is/was tragic.

i don't think by selling off the vehicles it made even the slightest dent in gm's financial situation.

Good truck though. i don't know if it was worth it----a similar truck could be restored for several thousands cheaper?

P.S. i love the wheel covers on both trucks; Today's "designers" suck and should all be fired without severance pay or pension and be publicly shamed. How do they sleep at night? (with sleeping pills)

I didn't get the impression that those trucks were in the GM collection. Let me know if I didn't interpret that right.

Selling vehicles in from the GM Heritage Center was not really a big deal; we did get "several" million dollars, which of course is helpful, but we didn't let any of the really good stuff go. Only duplicates and not very significant vehicles. The true one-offs and historically significant vehicles are still tucked away.

K

PS - I love those wheelcovers too. Those are the ones we had on our '69 GMC. After getting more exposure to the Pontiac 8 lug aluminum wheel I think I can see why Dad liked those wheel covers so well:

This truck was not part of the GM collection. It just sold at the same auction. Anyone know about the steering wheels with the wood grain inserts?

I think it was part of Cheyenne's and Silverado's that had the interior wood grain option on 73-76s

Beautiful truck, but I'm not sure why someone would pay that kind of money for a de-tuned 175 horse 454.

I'm kinda thinking it was an option. My '74 Blazer Cheyenne has the wood grain door panels and dash, but no signs of anything on the wheel.

I don't think it was a separate optioned item. I betting yours was swapped out if it is a Cheyenne (unless they only came on the Cheyenne Supers). IIRC it is a printed aluminum inlayed piece.

My 76 Silverado has wood grain on the doors, dash, gauge bezel and on the steering wheel just like that one, except alot more worn, lol Looks like a very nice truck. Glad to see it brought in some good money.
