lower control arm cross shaft question

Hey all, I have a '77 1/2t 2WD that I rebuilt the front suspension on. The dowel pins on the crossmember for the cross shaft on the lower control arm are ok in the front, but on the rear they are flattened out and do not engage in the cross shaft. Is this normal or should I be looking for a new crossmember as I can't seem to but just the dowel pin anywhere. From other posts it looks like the 67-72 only used the front dowel. Thanks for the help.
