69-72 hood on a 68... anyone done it?
ok. i know most people do it the other way but i'm thinking of going the other way w/ my project. the truck is a 68 4wd and i think the taller hood would look a little meaner, almost like the HD hood on my dmax.
so anyone ever done it before. i did a search but couldn't find much on it. thanks

Re: 69-72 hood on a 68... anyone done it?
put the grill and fenders from a 71-72 and it would make it look real nice!
Anyways would it look right with the contour of the 67-68 fenders? Something to think about. I found a stack of 67-72 hoods the other day in a local bone yard, I'm thinking about picking one up and punching a bunch of louvers in it then painting it to match my truck so I could have a different look if I wanted. Bottom line is this, its your ride do whatever the heck you want with it, opinions are like buttholes everyone has one and they usually stink!

well i'm not really asking if anyone likes it, personally i could care less
just wonderin if anyone has done it or had pics of one done, therefor i kinda know how to go about it. if you can put a 67 hood on a 72 front end why can't it work the other way around?

Quote:
67 & 68 hood and fenders are the same (except 67 had no marker lights) 69-72 hood and fenders are the same. BUT, since the hood is different the hood latch is also different, and because of the difference in hood shape...the 67/68 hood needs a different radiator support than the 69-72's. The hood being a different shape will also cause problems where the 72 hood meets you 67/68 grille because they don't match up the same. I'm getting ready to switch my front clip, and while I'm getting rid of the 69/70 front clip to replace it with a 67 front clip (on my 67) I can only imagine it would be the same issues for you trying to put a newer hood on your truck, but I'm sure others will chime in. |

Yeah, I guess you are right, I was thinking out loud again, sorry, I could measure my 71's hood from edge to edge and draw up a pic and you could compare it to your 68 and you'd see if the hood pin and hinge holes are even close. I also have a Factory Assembly Manual that might have a few good pics in it if that would help.

Re: 69-72 hood on a 68... anyone done it?
The hood pins will be the same along with the hinge holes. Where it is different is the height of the bulk head that the hood pin is attached to. I just recently did the mod to fit a 67-68 hood to a 72 clip and what it boils down to is the 67-68 hoods are about 1-1/2 inches longer than the 69-72 hoods. The bulkheads are different on the two types of hoods. Hope this helps.
Here is the linky, this will show the difference between the two. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=360725

Re: 69-72 hood on a 68... anyone done it?
sweet, i didn't realize that the lengths were different that helps a bunch. i have a few 72 hoods that i could chop up and lengthen.
i saw your thread nick and didn't even take notice of the length lol. i just remember the hood latches being different. your's came out nice too. it's kinda cool to know that noone else has gone the other way. or at least i haven't seen it yet anyway.
