Sportster build
Traded my '87 swb for this ugly 2003 HD Sportster a few months back. This picture does it way too much justice, it was really ragged out.
This is where it sits today, just need a little more garage time. Here's the build up at my blog: http://leevongrant.blogspot.com/

Re: Sportster build
Soooo much better. The first pic is one of those bikes that just makes me want to go grab my tools and start throwing parts on the floor until it looks decent. Looks like that's what you did, too.

Re: Sportster build
thanks, I literally rode it straight from the guys house to my garage...asked my wife if anybody spotted me then turned it into a pile of parts the same night Oh yeah, I made her take a picture of me riding it. If you've ever seen an elephant riding a tricycle then that's pretty close to how it looked.

Re: Sportster build
I made a few changes. I put a dragtron II air cleaner on it, straight pipes. Softail bars. Changed the wheels. and the front fender.

Re: Sportster build
Sorry guys all I have is this crappy cell phone pic, but the bike has been pretty much together since November. I have all of the lines ran, brakes bled, everything torqued and double checked, new fluids, etc. I went through 3 tanks finding one I liked though. I was going to do the paint myself but have gotten busy and it's been too dang cold! I was on Craigslist and ran across these guys:
http://www.hartmanspaintandbody.com/pinstriping I took him my tins today, he's going to paint them black base/clear, pinstripe, and do some lettering on the tank. He asked for some good photos when it's done. We shall see! I'm excited though, riding days are soon coming. What color would you guys stripe this bike? My first choices are silver/charcoal or orange/white. I'm kind of wanting to keep the dark theme with the silver/charcoal...what do you think?

Re: Sportster build
I know the "in" thing is exhaust like you have there, I can tell you from many years of tuning Harleys you will get the best performance with 38-40in length exhaust with a straight thru type muffler. Not to mention nobody will want to be on that side of you and there are times riding double is preferable especially in city traffic two scooters side by side make a bigger visionary impact.BTW years ago I had an iron head 1000 that would run around 130+ surprised a lot of rice grinders in its day. Thats gunna be a good lookin scoot and you'll luv it theyre torquey right off the bottom!

Re: Sportster build
Man, that's just a sweet bike. Those are the kind of bikes I'm used to seeing - apes, pipes, black. My relatives run very similar bikes - not flashy paint and windsheilds, etc.
In my opinion, if you're not set on gloss, a flat or satin base color, with gloss stripping looks pretty badass. Not to mention, with all the attention to "rat rods", etc, and the flat black craze, it might sell well? I dunno, just throwing it out there. Regardless, can't wait to see it done and going down the road. -Sam.

Re: Sportster build
Very nice, like the direction you took with the build. I'd like to start breaking into mine at some point in the near future. I have an 07 Nightster, bought here brand new, had to have it ordered in. Gotta love the fuel injection!! Throttle is crisp and right there. I want to get a few more miles on mine before I start really diggin into her though, 07 and have less then 1500 on it.

Re: Sportster build
Well for starters, it won't...start. And I need to get forward controls and a brake light. The rest is small stuff. I was nice getting it together today but I at the pace I move I'll be riding next fall!
Thanks for the compliment! My plan is to get it 100% then get some professional pics and sell, sell, sell! Any ideas what it's worth? It's a 2003 883XL with about 4500 miles.

Oh. I see. Well get started on that!!! Haha. It's not worth much. Ill take it off your hands so you don't have to deal with it anymore. Just crate it up and I will have a shipping company pick it up. Honestly though, I have no idea what it is worth. But it is a very nice bike and should bring in a pretty penny...or maybe two.
