71 door locking problems
Does anyone have any tips on adjusting the door locks or striker plates. My 71's doors will lock with doors open, but if the door is shut they will not lock at all. Any help would be appreciated. The doors body lines appear correct on the outside, so the door doesn't look like it needs adjusting.

It's old school man,You have to manually lock them with your key when they're closed.

Re: 71 door locking problems
Yeah I have to push my passenger door in to lock it. But it did it even before I installed the new weather stripping. Now it's just worse. I don't know where to adjust it but it's inside the door somewhere. I know my driver side door doesn't do it.

Re: 71 door locking problems
Had a similar issue. I was having trouble turning the key with the door open or closed. I sprayed a little lube in the key hole. I also took the lock knob on the inside off and sprayed a little down there too. Worked like a champ for me. Hopefully yours is just as easy.

Re: 71 door locking problems
That was a funny post, Dean. Cant make it to CTC, finishing up my sons bed instead.
I forgot to add to the post that I also have a 1970 chevy truck and I added power door lock actuators to it with a alarm and didnt have any trouble with the locks locking after the door was shut. I am wanting to do the same with this project. |
