Thumbs down I killed my electrical.....

While my truck was down and out, I figured hey, nows a good time to re-wires stuff. BAD IDEA!
I cut the wire that provides light power for the instruments. I then attached wires for the lights in my oil pressure, tranny temp, and tach, then reconnected everything together. Well, the lights work great. But the tach is only reading between 0-100rpm and it isent engine speed spacific. It just always vibrates like that now. Also my voltmeter, water temp and fuel gauge arent working now. Sterio still works great, and like I said before the lights are nice and bright. So, what exactly did I do? Its a green wire I spliced into if that helps....

sounds like your tach has a bad ground. don't know about the others?

Try this from Mike's site Tom. #1 Lt. green = high beam indicator lamp. #2 Gray = instrument lamps. #3 Black = ground. #4 Pink/black stripe = ignition. #5 Tan = oil pressure sending unit. #6 Pink/black stripe = ignition. #7 Pink = Fuel (will be spliced to #18 if you have dual tanks. Use the wire from #18 to hook up fuel gauge). #8 Black = ground. #9 Dk. green = water temp sending unit. #10 Black = ground. #11 Lt. blue = left turn signal indicator lamp. #12 Dk. blue = right turn signal indicator lamp. #14 Yellow = fasten seat belt light. #15 Md. blue = choke warning light. #16 Pink/black stripe = ignition. #17 Tan/white stripe (2) = park brake warning light. #18 Pink (2) = Fuel gauge sending unit (splice to other pink wire at #7).

Hehe thanks guys

I figured the tach out. It needs a filter to work with the MSD module. Also the tranny temp ground had come un done. So those are good. Now why the water temp, volt meter and gas gauge arebnt working, I dont know.

Electrical gremlins are my pet peeve about working on my truck.....no matter what...i manage to get shocked at least once...lol

Damn Tom is that the green wire you cut when I was over there? You need to get behind that bezel and start tracking down those wires. Check to see if you have what you need at the gauge.

and remember when you cut a wire and your going to check it for power, check both ends of the wire, you may be testing the wrong side

Thanks eddie, really thanks

yeah its that green wire. Im thinking about pulling all the extra wires off and reconnecting it by its self to seeif that fixes it. If so, then Ill need to use a different power source for the lights.
