need help asap

Right now I have a 700R4 out of a 83 chevy truck (or at least that's what I was told when I bought it) and it is bad acording to the tranny shop. I saw on craigs list a tranny out of a 96 chevy 2wd truck with 20k on it. The question is will this tranny work for me? you know length, tail shaft, electronics, mount location, my existing flywheel, kick down cable lenght, and all of the other stuff I probably left out.
Thanks

I think 96 is an electronic tranny. You want a year model from 88 to 92 for non electronic.

You'll need to look at it and see if it has a TV cable. And you'll need to see if it has an electric speedo sender on it. Not sure when the trucks switched over to elec. speedos. But the cars were switching as ealy as 86.

Not sure what "bad" means.. but it may be cheaper to just get the one you have rebuilt. Cross member part is easy. IMO

Re: need help asap

That '96 trans is actually a 4L60E, the later electronic version of the 700R4. To use the 4L60E will require a standalone controler that will run you about $1K. I would suggest as already mentioned, either find a '88-'91 700R4 or check into what it will cost to get your current trans repaired.

Re: need help asap

AVOID any older than 87 unless it's updated with newer internals - I went through 3 earlier models in an older Blazer
