fleet bed difference/prices?
My short stepside bed has been sitting outside for over 10 yrs and rust has taken a real toll on it. The bottom of the front and both side panels are about too far gone to save without replacement metal. Fenders are ok, tailgate is also questionable.
I have been giving some thought to going with a fleetside lately and yesterday I looked a salvage yard over for truck parts. Numerous long fleets there and from a distance some looked pretty good. I won't be cutting one down however. I did find a fair looking short bed on a 71 truck. No large holes in the floor and no tailgate. Fenders feel solid. I cannot remember if it had the side marker or not. Is there any other difference in a 67 fleet bed and a 68 to 72? I know a pic would help but what's a fair price for this bed I've found? And there wasn't but one or two tailgates out there and all were trashed. Is there a shortage of good used tailgates? I'll have to go with a used bed as a MarkA (sp) bed kit is not an option. $$$ Thanks.

If the bed was original to the '71 it should have markers. The short fleetside beds are basically all the same except for the trim. Without pics it's hard to say but I would guess $200-$400 would be in the ball park for a decent driver type bed. Good tailgates are getting hard to find, that's for sure... LockDoc

Re: fleet bed difference/prices?
I bought a cherry rust free oem tailgate off Ebay for $150 including shipping some time ago and have found them around here in So Cal every once in awhile for between $150 and $250 in great shape. I would stick with oem.

Re: fleet bed difference/prices?
I gave up on my quest to find an original tail gate that was decent, and I got one from LMC. It was better quality than I thought, and it didn't look like a "U" like my original one.
You can get decent short fleets for around $400, but most original stuff will still need some work.

Re: fleet bed difference/prices?
Were the 67 fleets available with both metal floor or wood floor?

Re: fleet bed difference/prices?
steel was standard and wood was optional in all 67 - 72 short and long wheelbase fleetside beds.
All stepsides and longhorns came only with wood. 67 would have no markers, otherwise, the beds are the same 67 - 72 |

Re: fleet bed difference/prices?
That's good. The markers aren't of concern to me. Finding a better than basket case bed is. I will have to go back and see what I can do on this one. Thanks all.
