rear drum brake question

I'm in the process of rebuilding my rear brakes on my 69 C10. Can this piece be removed by unscrewing the two 3/8 bolts on the back side? One of the bolts is stripped and I can't get it out without drilling. Just need to know if it's necessary. My search is broken, is there any rear drum brake rebuild threads out there?

Re: rear drum brake question

That is your wheel cylinder, and yes the two bolts behind it hold it to the backing plate.

If I were you, I would grind the head off of the stripped out bolt. Then when you get a new wheel cylinder, just buy new bolts to re attach it to the backing plate.

Napa sells those pretty cheap.

Re: rear drum brake question

Take a hammer and chisel and knock the head off of the stripped bolt. Then the wheel cylinder will come off. The wheel cylinder will cost you 15 bucks or so. A new bolt maybe a quarter.
