Things that dont work....
Spent the day tearing Bessie apart to do the "simple" P/S box swap to a '72 integral unit...These are the things I learned:
The 72 C10 power steering box does not fit 67 C20 frames with the raised areas without shimming the box out. The 67 C20 power assist draglink will not fit a 72 C10 P/S pitman arm. The 67 C20 inner tie rod ends will not fit into a 72 C10 draglink, the taper is huge. 72 C10 inner tie rod ends will not fit the 67 C20 adjusting sleeves as the threaded area is LARGER than the 3/4 ton unit. I hate grease! So now I am at a loss....what can I use for an inner tie rod end that has the smaller C10 taper and the smaller threaded shaft?

Re: Things that dont work....
You may be needing to use C-10 parts rather than C-20 parts. Look at the FAQ under power steering. One of the postings has a list by part # for all the parts you should need. Good Luck..

Re: Things that dont work....
shimming the gear box is a bad idea. I would head up the frame with a torch and dimple it.
Its been over a year since I did my C/20 to C/10 conversion, but I coulda have sworn the pitman was the same between the two. I don't own a puller and don't recall borrowing one. (mine was already power steering) |

Re: Things that dont work....
Thanks LH, I appreciate the advice on the frame dimple. The Draglink on the 67 has a control valve with a post sticking out of it. The 67 pitman arm has a hole in it to receive said post. The 72 pitman arm has a post in it that goes through a hole in the draglink. The 2 are opposite one another. I'm gonna bite the bullet and just swap frames over and have all the benefits of the 72 under the 67 body.....

Re: Things that dont work....
If you use a solid shim, not just washers stacked up you should be fine.
