This is probably going to sound like a funny question. Do you need a special paintgun to shoot that big of flakes? It looks great.

There is a story in the new Car Craft about shooting heavy flake. Try to find an old siphon feed gun with a 1.8-2.2 tip to pass the flake through. You will need a good bit of clear to cover the flake if you want it to be smooth (the flake is pretty big).

Glendale, that looks sharp on your truck. What kind of flake did you use?

Re: did my first flake job today

i used a spot sandblaster from harbor freight.
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=96972 i took it apart and cut the suction tube down so that it would be the height of the jar of flake. then i drilled the lid to fit the suction tube. and then drilled 4 small holes so that would create suction.

here is the basic idea this what i modeled mine after. and lots of reading on the hamb. it was by no means my idea. i just gave it a shot.

http://www.innate.com/Paint/OSF/Flake%20Buster.htm

http://www.rothmetalflake.com/main.html

i used roth flake and ols school flake. just because i had both.

Re: did my first flake job today

That's a trip. You could shoot some huge flake like alpha jewels (think bass boat flake) through something like that. You would amost have to shoot gelcoat over them to cover them up though. In the CC story they used House of Kolor flake, and they looked pretty good sized there.

A flaked paint job with a pearl suspended in the clear as a midcoat would look trick, too, as long as the pearl didn't clash with your base. A little bit of gold pearl over that orange flake would be pretty trick.

Nice! What are the paint and interior plans for the truck that compliment that wild orange flake?
