anyone with a 6.0 4l80e in a 4x4
ive heard of some people putting the 6.0 and 4l80e and their 2wd trucks but ive been lookin into doin the swap into my 72 3/4 ton 4x4. i know i would need the ecu and everything for the motor and trans, but can i use my original transfer case or do i need to use the newer transfer case. and what about the the shifter linkage for the trans and if i use the newer transfer case how would i shift it from 2wd to 4wd

BillyJo has one with a 6.0 and a NV4500.
You might try posting the 4x4 section. http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...er.php?u=19601

Boy they sure are proud of their kit.
boostat4500 put one from a 2001 3/4 ton in his 71 Burban. He used engine, trans, and T-case out of the 01.

he also had to put a ford front axel in it. it would be a bad ass setup but the more i look into it the less cost effective. i think i can rebuild my 350 and put a 700r4 behind it ans spend less then $2000.

Re: anyone with a 6.0 4l80e in a 4x4
I am also looking into similar swaps/questions and didn't recieve lots of feedback.
One of my options would be a TBI/700R4/241 complete swap. The TC drops on the correct side and you could probably buy the complete drive line. Going this route I would need to have both driveshafts made. Both of mine are new so I would rather not. I am not sure about TC shifter location with this swap either? Next option I am considering is any 350 (crate or TBI?) bolted to a 700R4 in front of my NP205. The transmission would need to be rebuilt with an output shaft for the NP205. I believe this would move the drive line forward 1 7/8 inches. This would give more clearance for the HEI. I am not sure of oil pan clearance with moving the engine forward. I would be able to keep my driveshafts and TC shifter but would have to lengthen the exhaust and possible transmission shifting issues to work out (lokar and there are other options) What I would really like is a 5.3 or 6.0 with a 4l60/4l65 (too bad the TC drops on the wrong side). That set up would require the same transmission rebuild for the output shaft and all the other senarios? Lastly I am considering going 2WD and eliminating all these issues and going coil springs/trailing arms for a better ride? I hope some more people chime in because I think there are more of us interested in this kind of swap? |
