Re: Smooth bumper?
I have not seen one lately but that doesn't mean there are none. You could always smooth it yourself. Just weld the carriage bolts on the back, grind the heads off then weld them solid on front and grind it smooth. Then you can either have it plated or paint it to match the new paint job.

Re: Smooth bumper?
You could always just cut 2 bumpers up to section them together to make 1 without the plate area. Then weld the bolts smooth. And paint it to match. "Voila" custom bumper!

Re: Smooth bumper?
I purchased my smoothed an d frenched bumper from Stylin Trucks many years ago. Don't know if they are still doing it, but the guys above are absolutely right take astocker and weld in the bumper bolts and grind the heads down and then smooth and fill with body fiiller---unless you want it chromed, then use copper to fill the grind marks.

Re: Smooth bumper?
When welding and then chroming, you need to be very careful not to warp the metal at all.
Do one tack on each side, wait for it to cool, then go do another one. Repeat until you have a complete "seam" weld. This is smoothed and the rear is chopped up a bit to match the hight of the roll pan.

Re: Smooth bumper?
As far as I know, no one makes a smooth bumper. If you want to remove the license plate area you will have to cut a side section from another bumper and put it in the middle.
I wouldn't plan on chroming it. It takes a VERY good metal crafter to make it smooth enough to chrome. Then it requires a chrome plater that will copper plate and sand until it's smooth before they chrome it. It's a very expensive process.

Re: Smooth bumper?
I think the bumper looks better when tucked in as much as possible but I am not a fan of it cutting into the fender like Colby's.

Re: Smooth bumper?
Paint doesn't stick on chrome all that well. what I have done in the past is use a coarse sanding disc or grinder to take all the chrome off and the prime and paint.

Re: Smooth bumper?
Use a muratic acid to cut the chrome and then paint over the zinc bas under it.

Re: Smooth bumper?
If your going to weld on the bumper, it's best to start with a painted bumper, or have a chrome one stripped.
You can take a chrome bumper to a chrome shop or bumper shop and they can reverse the process.
