Fuel Tank Sending Unit

Motor I'm looking at would require an electric fuel pump. I would probably need to rig up a return line to the tank in my '69. Does a '72 fuel sending unit have a place for the return? Would it fit my '69 gas tank? Or should I just run the electric pump dead headed into the regulator and forget running a return line?

Re: Fuel Tank Sending Unit

I just replaced mine in my 72 and I believe it had a second line. I'm not sure but I think it is the vent. You can see a picture of the part in the LMC catalog.

Re: Fuel Tank Sending Unit

Thanks for the reply. I think it's a return and the vent is on the fuel tank neck IIRC. Just wondering if a '72 sender will fit a '69 tank.

X2 on the question, I'm putting a 6.5 diesel in my rig and I also need to know which sending unit to get.

The sending units will interchange between years.

Cool, thanks. Is the second line on a '72 sender a return?

I don't think so, I think it goes to the vapor canister. I don't know why it couldn't be used as one though.

Re: Fuel Tank Sending Unit

has anyone put an in tank electric pump in the stock tank, with the stock sending unit ? im thinking of doing this for my 69 big block. im converting it to e85 and need to either put a pump in the stock tank, or do one of those aftermarket tanks under the bed.
