Longhorn Big Block -
My neighbor is selling his '70 original owner Longhorn Camper Special big block for $1000. It has the original motor, rebuilt with less than 2000 miles, TH400, a/c, ps,pb, wood bed -it runs great and everything is there. Original paint (beige) and the body is pretty sound - it lived in L.A. all it's life. He doesn't drive it, it's in his side yard and he starts it from time to time. The only problem is I don't need another truck. I'll try to post pictures either tonight or tomorrow - I have to go over to my brother's MIL's house for dinner tonight, so it'll probably be tomorrow. It has the original 2 barrel on it and he installed saddle tanks. What do you guys think?

Re: Longhorn Big Block -
Great deal for someone. At that price it would be worth it to buy it and drive it across the country, or ship it. Someone needs to jump on this deal.

Re: Longhorn Big Block -
I sure would like to buy it but the wife would divorce me if I brought home another truck. Anyway, I really want a 71-72 4x4.

Re: Longhorn Big Block -
I'm with JQ - 72... I can't ever recall seeing a factory, 2-barrell Big Block. Does anyone have some insight into this? Was this a factory deal, was it an option, or???

Re: Longhorn Big Block -
I've seen quite a few 396, 2bbl set-ups. They run really good, lots of torque and get about 13-14 mpg. Yes, the low teens on mileage

Re: Longhorn Big Block -
Only truck ive ever seen with a 2 bbl 396 was on here. It was I believe a black 68 from canada. Anything is possible, but im guessing your neighbors was converted to a 2 bbl in the gas crunch.

Re: Longhorn Big Block -
O.K., here's the pictures - I posted them to photobucket, since we're having problems downloading the here. The truck has 113,000 original miles, and the 396 supposedly only has a couple hundred miles since the rebuild, 3 or 4 years ago, say the owner. It's been sitting and he goes out to start it every couple of months. It start right up for me and outside of an exhaust manifold leak, it runs great.

Re: Longhorn Big Block -
I think I'm gonna get it - if someone is interested, let me know, it's gonna sit in his yard for a while until figure out what to do with it. Wosre comes to worse, I can mash the 396/400 into my '67 somehow.

Re: Longhorn Big Block -
If the motor is really rebuilt, shouldn't that alone be worth more than 1k?

Re: Longhorn Big Block -
That looks like a great deal for a one ton camper truck. I would question the engine rebuild however. All that overspray makes me wonder. Still a good deal either way. Eric

Re: Longhorn Big Block -
Supposedly he's got $4000 in reciepts - he says he used expensive pistons, a steel crank, and a mild RV cam.
