I aftermarket deluxe side markers, not sure the brand
The stainless strim fell off so i super glued, silicone, and epoxied them, no luck. First i think it was the heat and now that winters coming i think its the cold. Any ideas? Thanks Pat |

Re: Deluxe Side Markers
I don't know that it is a solution, but it does tuck it in to where it won't get smacked or bumped.
Plus it just looks bad ass! |

Re: Deluxe Side Markers
From what I have read it is better to just redo some original ones. Are the sets from 1970's vans the same? There should be lots of those in the boneyards.

Re: Deluxe Side Markers
The vans are the same.
I use 3M trim adhesive and have had good luck with it holding the stainless onto the lense. It is a bit messy to use but it works. Jim

Re: Deluxe Side Markers
Could be mold release that is still on the lenses when they were made, just not cleaned enough or properly ??
Clean well and use proper adhesive like the 3M mentioned above....yea it's messy but works well. Dave

Re: Deluxe Side Markers
I know that tucking them in wouldn't help, my buddy put some on his truck outside last winter, did not even move the truck came out the next morning and all of the trim had fell off...... Cheap repro crap!!! He used some windshield urethane to glue them back on and so far they have stayed!!!

Re: Deluxe Side Markers
I have a set off an old van or something and my trim has fallen off of two. I just superglued it and it has held.

Re: Deluxe Side Markers
Yup, funny story, just finished my truck 2 years ago in the dead of winter (about 15 degrees) It was a sunny but cold day.
I told my friends at the local breakfast cafe I would bring the truck up to show it off... so there are 5 friend standing in the lot when I pulled up. Got out, shut the door, and 7 of the 8 little trim rings on the side marker popped off all at once and hit the ground, EVERYBODY was about on the ground laughing. Took them all off (the one last trim ring) sanded off the glue and polished the plastic and left them off.... Last edited by diggertodd; 10-20-2009 at 10:19 PM. |

Re: Deluxe Side Markers
van markers from 70 or so, when they went to the big vans, and then up till 90 or so when they finally retired the old van dura and went to the savana.
The early years had the same as our truck's base model lenses, the mid 70's to mid 80's had the delux ones that ours had (the ones this thread is actually about) then the smooth ones as seen on big al's truck as seen above finished out that van body style. The last ones put out 2 to 3 times the light over the early or mid year style. Last edited by Longhorn Man; 10-21-2009 at 04:08 PM. |

Would the housing from the van work or be needed, or just use the old metal ones from the trucks?? Dave

Re: Deluxe Side Markers
I got the clear 2 part epoxy from Lowe's . I think Elmers or Loc-tite . Clean it up mix it and clamp or tape it . Lots of uses for it . It is thick and goooy like honey or syrup .
