Pictures of my $1000 Longhorn -
I'm really torn on this truck - it seems to be all there, it's a complete, original, 113,000 mile truck that needs a few things, and for a thousand dollars, it seems to be a good deal, but I don't know what I would do with it, quite honestly, and I have nowhere to put it. I need a little input from you guys. I drove it today and the tranny shifts very smoothly, but it had no power, and it looked like the secondarys weren't kicking in on the carb - it definitely needs a rebuild. It has a bad exhaust leak, and the gas gauge and temp gauge don't work, but all the lights, speedo, and oil pressure gauge works. There aren't any major rust problems that I can see but it has a fair amount of surface rust. Here's some pictures. For a thousand dollars, what do you think?

Re: Pictures of my $1000 Longhorn -
For $1000 you got a very good deal. If you don't have the space, storage or time to work on it ... you then will find your answer. Now I'll throw logic and common sense out the window. Fix it and drive it.

Dan,
how much longer are those Longhorns than the LWB trucks? Very good deal I would say as well for one grand! Congrats!

Re: Pictures of my $1000 Longhorn -
Guys, I haven't bought it yet - it sounds like you guys thinks it's a pretty good deal. The guy doesn't have it advertised yet, and another guy is gonna look at it tomorrow. I'm still thinking about it. (I shouldn't have said it was mine yet). Here's a couple more pictures.

Re: Pictures of my $1000 Longhorn -
I said it before, and now that I have seen pictures I will say it again:
That's a lot of truck for $1,000. Edit: I bet a simple tune-up will wake the engine up. Rebuild the carb, add HEI with new wires and plugs, and she will wake right up.

Re: Pictures of my $1000 Longhorn -
aren't big block AC brackets worth half that price? that is a lot of truck for $1000... easily worth more in my area but that's a given.

Re: Pictures of my $1000 Longhorn -
Looks like a perfect candidate for a SWB conversion...
Thats real close to the price I paid for my LWB survivor. Pick it up!

Re: Pictures of my $1000 Longhorn -
Yeah, those are two auxillary tanks the guy had installed. Supposedly the motor doesn't even have 1000 miles on it. He installed a funky cruise control that operates on the #1 spark plug wire. Brakes seem to work well, drives like a tank. Maybe I'll talk to him in the morning.

Re: Pictures of my $1000 Longhorn -
brakes are important on that... becouse most of the parts don't exist any more. (mine is the exact same thing, 70 C/30 longhorn)
you could part that out and make a killer profit, but as a truck, in your area, that may be overpriced. You could drive it here, sell it, fly home, and still have profit in your pocket. |

Re: Pictures of my $1000 Longhorn -
I think a grand for that is a steal because all the ones around here are all rotted away. If I were you I would atleast buy it to resell it.

Re: Pictures of my $1000 Longhorn -
Yeah, I bought it. Now the old guy is saying he thinks it only has 14,000 miles on it - it had a travel queen camper on it and he said they never used it. The motor was rebuilt (supposedly) about 14 years ago but he says there's less than 100 miles on it. This truck has sat for long periods and I will have to deal with that - figure out how to get it back to where it should be. It runs pretty good, actually, and there is absolutely no smoke out of the exhaust. I'm looking forward to seeing how it runs after I change the fluids and rebuild the carb.

Re: Pictures of my $1000 Longhorn -
HOLY CRAP I'LL TAKE IT!!
Yeah I'm pretty sure with a new distributor, a cleanup/rebuild on the carb, and some Marvel Mystery oil to loosen up stuck lifters will make it run like a champ. Flush the fuel and change the plugs/wires/filters/oil. |

Re: Pictures of my $1000 Longhorn -
Sorry, I should have been a little more clear in my earlier post.
This is a quote from the page you linked to. "G.M.C. also had there version, but I can't seem to find much information on them." I didn't know there was a GMC version and I was wondering since you have a Longhorn if you might have some details on it. |

Re: Pictures of my $1000 Longhorn -
Where I'm from any arguably operational large American pick-up is worth at least $500.00, even old Dodges. People do some necessary repairs and use them to haul dirt and firewood. 67-72 Chevys are collectible (to wit our sickness) so that's godda be worth an extra $500.00. BTW, looking at the wear and tear I suspect you seller is suffering from selective amnesia on the mileage. But its still worth the price.
