Hey everyone. I did a search and couldn't find a pic of a step-side (or fleet-side) that had zebra wood in the bed.

Does anyone have a pic? I think zebra wood is awesome looking and I would like to see it installed.

yes, zebra would is exactly what it sounds like, a dark and light mixing contrast, like a marble cake.

what i realy like is what is called curly maple. it has a zebra-esk striping but no color change and it a has a erie 3d look.

Like the man said, have you checked the price lately? Curly maple and birdseye maple are waay pricey as well. However, I agree with you that either species would look awesome. I like your thinking on exotic woods for our trucks. I spent $70 for the chunk of Rambutan I made my dash from.

If you can afford it, go for it and be sure to post some pix of the results.

Has that freds place updated his website? That would be an incredible deal for birds eye maple. I have a dresser that needs the birds eye maple veneer top fixed and I was quoted a small fortune just to do that. I can't imagine a whole bed! It would have to become my new dining room table!!

If I ever do a wood bed I really like African Wenge. Its close to Zebra woods grain and sometimes the are used together on trim/ flooring, Its a real pretty dark wood. I bet they are proud of it $$$$$$$$

If i had a large sump of money, or a wood bed floor, I would try to get it made of cocobolo, its a beautiful dark red/purple rosewood.

I don't know about all the exotic wood, but I saw a truck bed this weekend that looked like it was white washed except with black paint. Of course the truck was black so it looked good. Then there was another one that did the same thing with dark olive green paint cuz his truck was green. It would be a lot cheaper but still look good.

Here is a pic I found on google if that gives you an idea of what I am talking about.

It's about 14-20 per board foot. Compared to 4-6 per board foot for oak. At least that's the price locally.

If money wasn't a factor. I always thought Teak would make a durable attractive bed choice.

great choice of wood. beautiful and hard. should also help with weight on the rear end. i am waiting for my sheet metal guy to finish the bed parts so i can install with the stainless strips.

Um, Mike? How can I say this? Um, er... no.

I work for a sign shop and automotive graphic supplier here in Tucson and we have all of those vinyls in stock. I just don't think it would hold up super great. In the bed area anyway...

Good idea though...hmmmm. I may have to give this a little thought...

This sort of reminds me of what i want to do... In indiana theres someone selling in the autorv old bowling alley wood. using that as a bed floor.

Zebra wood is really cool, but it is so bold that it might take the "right" truck to pull it off. Black, white, cream, tan, red

The biggest problem with it is that it is rather splinter prone while working with it.....it also smells like a "wet dog" when you cut it.

Don't know, I have never cut any....but I can't imagine that anyone actually likes the smell of wet dog?
